I have a Nissan altima 2.5S and i'm putting in a 1000 watt duel 12" enclosed sub with a 1000 watt amp. But many people i know have a capacitor too. Is it nesseccary to have one?

Lets put it this way..... a capacitor is like a bandaid. If you have a system, and you get dimming people just go and throw a capacitor in the car. When really what they should be doing is getting a better battery, alternator, and in some cases even getting a better thicker power and ground wire. So to answer your question no it is not needed if you do your system the correct way.

I wouldn't bother with any of that. If i'm understanding correctly you have a duel 1kw amp.

That means it'll give you like 50 watts. LOL

Ok, thanks. I haven't recieved the amp or sub yet so hopefully i will wire it all together correctly and not have to worry about that.

I'm pushing >500 watts with my stock elec system and don't have dimming at night even with the A/C on. Then again, the HID transformer may help eliminate that...

I upgrade my alternators, change the battery up front, add at least one in the rear, and then add capacitors for each amp. It may sound like overkill but you can never have too much current running to the amps. You would be amazed at the difference in sound between a stock charging system and a car with it done properly.

As for your car, i doubt you will need anything. If its just a sub amp then you should be fine...at night with the winsheild wipers on, a/c pumpin, headlights on, and system bumpin you will probably have some dimming of your interior lights but nothing major.

I would add one if you have any dimming (meaning you're now not getting as much wattage to your speakers as you could since your voltage is dropping). I would also upgrade your alternator because if you let it go for too long, you'll wear yours out anyway.

Or you could go this route.

Add a cap if your lights dim.Upgrade your altenator when it dies.Upgrade your battery when it dies.

My MTX 2300x killed my altenator in my broncoII after about a year. My lights would dim like crazy and at stop lights my power would drop so much my car engine would studder when the bass hit...I would bet if I used that amp in my explorer I would have minimal dimming. Its charging system is much better since it's 4 y/o.
