Hey..thought i shoudl ask her first since most of the honda forums are unreadable and nearly useless.I installed the cd player. It's a very nice alpine unit. It has two illumination power lines running..and somehow i have to connect them with one illumination coming from the stock harness...2002 civic..not that anyone cares...just wondering how to hook it up. Right now I have it hooked up..both power wires to the one illumination wire coming from the civic..which needless to say..does not work. Any ideas? Also in removing the stock unit...it took away keyless entry....and ****ed with the power door locker...anyone want to help me out here?...this civic stuff is pissing me off...why must everything be controlled by the stock head unit..piece of **** :)

Ive never put a deck into a new civic, and its kinda hard to figure things like this out without actually seeing it. I know most aftermarket decks how one illumination wire, but they are only used if you want the stereo to light up when you have the interior lights on, if you dont hook up the illum wire the deck should stay lit all the time. Your best bet is to get an adaptor for the stock decks wiring harness. They are usually about 15 bones at Best Buy, etc., They probably account for the door locks and stuff.

I'm going to hate myself here, but the keyless module is part of the radio in some civics, you have to leave the radio powered up and just stick it somewhere else in the dash. Why do you have power tied to illumination?? It will only work if the lights are that way. Buy a harness, or find someone more capable.

My ex had a civic with a Kenwood in it, she had it professionally installed and they put the sock radio behind the A/C controls in the dash so she could keep her keyless entry.

I guess this is reason #423,976 not to buy a Civic.

Lol...ya that's all the way to 98 that they had the keyless entry operated through the radio..it wasn't in this 2k2...i got it all working today...it was a very nice sounding system when we finished. New infinity speakers upfront, a kicker ss1000 box and a kenwood 600watt 2 channel amp. Plus that badass alpine headunit that is well...nice :) but then again...it's still a civic...that system would be so much sweeter in my car :) (which i get outta the shop on monday!!!*oil leaks, oil sending unit, o2 sensor*What's a decent price for all that to be installed?...he was charging me right at 400..i'm getting ripped aren't i???(don't care too much..it's my christmas preasent so i'm not paying for any of it!!!)...ok...too many parantheseseseses...sorry..i'm excited about getting my car back and never having to lay upside down in the floorboard of a civic again...except when my girlfriend wants to 69 in her car..i mean..umm...ya...so i fixed the problem...thread over :)

Test the connections to see what they do when you turn on the lights and also when you dim the interior lights. If the head unit only has one connection, then you will only use one of the leads. I'm guessing one lead is to let the radio know when the lights are on so the display dims. The other is probably to tell the head unit what position the dimmer switch is in. Most aftermarket headunits only have a lead to dim when the lights are turned on.

You need to order a t-harness from your local stereo shop that carries the brand Metra.

it was a crutchfield harness and it was fine if i just left the dimmer unhooked..he doesn't care if his deck dims anyway!..lol~

There is a dimmer wire that you don't need to connect it at all. I learned this from some audio installtion dude, because no one likes to have their radio dimmed anyways. Your friend might left the wrong unhooked wire.

Only 96-98 Civics have built in keyless entry in the radio. But if you get a security system from clutchfield and you will have your keyless entry back.

Ok, here we go. THis is the solution to all your problems:

Drop that factory keyless entry and go with an aftermarket alarm. Costs you an extra $100, but is that worth the headaches and pain that you'll save from hiding that cheap stock headunit somewhere else? :)

As for the wiring, you typically have a permanent 12V wire, a 12V when key is on Acc position wire, a ground wire, an illumination wire, power antenna wire, amp wire, and 8 speaker wires.

permanent 12V = goes to a wire that has 12V all the time.

12V when key is on Acc = only 12V when you have key on any position besides Off

ground = self explanatory

illumination wire = 12V when you have your parking lights on, or headlights on, 0V otherwise.

power antenna wire = controls your power antenna

amp wire = controls your amps/eq/active crossover/etc.

The bare minimum wires you need are the permanent 12V, GND, and 12V when key is on Acc wire.

Illumination is only there to dim your headunit when you turn on your headlights.

EDIT: You ARE doing this with a multimeter right?
