Ok, what it sounds like you're saying that you have a sealed enclosure for 2 10's, and you are wondering if you can port your current box. First off what type of subs are they, next you need to know the airspace requirments for those subs for a ported enclosure. Then measure the airspace of your current box and see if its enough to port. Most likely its not gonna be. Therefore you're either gonna have to build another one or have someone do it for you.

Ported enclosures do give you about a 5 db increase, and in a hatchback you will get more bass. You do lose some sound quality when you switch to a ported enclosure, plus they are less forgiving if you don't get them built perfect to specs.

They can be ported.. But you do and I repeat YOU DO have to under power them... If you run them at specs unless you have a Sub Sonic filter... You will blow them... Do not run them at there RMS rating... or you can say bye to them

P.S. if you run with a ported box... Go Slot porter.. Its a lot more efficient and its alot cleaner sound.. you won't get turbulence out of it like you do with tube ports....

Simply drilling holes in the box to "let the bass out" is not a good idea. You will need to put a properly sized (width and length) port in the enclosure. Ports are a set width and length to tune the box at a set frequency. Simple holes will not do that for you.

A slotted vent is preferred in my book too, but will probably require building a new box whereas adding a port is simply making the hole and mounting it.....

Find out the actual model number of the subs and search for box information. Here is a link to the MTX T81044a subs that give you box information: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/pr...A.pdf
