I was wondering what the specs on the audio package are. I know you get a Rockford Fosgate sub and some speaker upgrades. Did I leave out anything? What sizes are the sub and speakers and what do you think of the package?

It's an 8 inch sub. can't remember the specs on the speakers. Also has pillar mounted tweeters. It CAN sound pretty good. It really depends on the source. Some of my mp3's are recorded at a high bitrate and have a lot of punch. The FM just sounds average to me.

I think the upgraded speakers are still only 25W RMS ~ 40W max

My SL has the post-mounted tweeters and I don't have the audio package.

I pulled the speakers in my SL (w/o audio pkg) just to see; they're 20W nominal/40W max, 2 ohm. Blaupunkt, surprisingly.

I'm not happy with the clarity of the door speakers. Sound seems dull to me. Would I be better off with two-way speakers? 3-way?

You'd be best off with component speakers in the front, and seeing if you or the install shop can make everything fit in the stock locations. Barring that, if you don't want to make any modifications to the car's plastic bits, a good 3-way door speaker and disconnecting the factory tweeters would be the way to go.

The rears would need good 3-way speakers.

Yup, cause that's standard on the SL.

Thanks for the advice....

I have a sister in Bothell and one in Snohomish. A nephew dates a daughter of one of the owners of the Aquasox.

Would keeping the factory tweeters and going to 3-ways all around give me too much top end? Like I said before, things sound too muddy now. A little extra top wouldn't bother me.

Better not to bother with the upgraded audio package and just buy aftermarket IMHO. You could buy a nice amp and pair of subs that's better than the upgraded ones for the $300 the options package costs.

I'm more of a Silvertips gan myself. That's quite a bit of family out here tho.

Components work by having the two different speakers (the woofer and the tweeter) on a given side connect through a crossover which splits the signal and sends the high frequencies to the tweeter and the lower frequencies to the woofer. Because this setup system requires all 3 pieces to be matched and connected, you can't keep the door tweeters connected and use a 3-way in the door.

He's referring to the Nissan audio package you can order in the US for the Versa. Your numbers are WAY off there. Deke's numbers sound more correct.
