My head unit is cutting out randomly. Very randomly. I can go on 2 hour drive and it not do it once and I can drive home from work and it cuts out 8 times in two minutes (3 times back to back at one point). So I know it's not overheating. The problem specifically is that I'll be happily listning to tuneage when the headunit presumably loses power for a couple seconds and then boots back up...sometimes only to instantly cut back out. It's not related to driving on a bumpy road (maybe a loose connection or something). It's worked fine for many moons so I don't know. It's been raining for the last 6 days so I can't check it out yet but I figured I'd put out a feeler.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't expect a solution to my problems, but maybe someone can narrow down my search. Obviously I'll be checking all the connections, but maybe my head unit's losing it's mind and one of you knows something I don't.

If you need any info from me let me know. Thanks.

Can you supply details of your system? OEM head unit or aftermarket, what brand, do you have amp(s), aftermarket or OEM speakers, etc.

If the deck is driving speakers by itself with no external amplifier then a short in one of the speakers or wires can cause the headunit output to cut out.

Does the headunit loose power or does the power stay on and it just looses sound output?

Need more details then I/we can probably provide more direction.

Yeah no problem.

I'm running a Sony CDFX-7750 or something like that, there's a good chance I made that up, I can find out if I need to. The head unit is powering 4 Infinity reference 4x6 plates and I have 2 channel infinity ref amp bridged, powering a 10" ref sub.

The head unit loses power. Then turns back on.

I'd go start probing around but it's been raining for no lie like 6 days straight and I found out my hatch is leaking yesterday but can't really do anything about that till it stops. >:O

Sounds like you need to check the ground to the Hu. If there's corrosion or it's loose that'll cause intermittent power lose

Redo your power connections...If it continues, your head unit power supply is faulty.
