Hello,

I gotta get at least a 1 farad capacitor for my system so I dont lose another alternator. Anyway, I'm sure when I get one it will come with instructions, but if not, I just cut the main power wire, and insert the capacitor and re-attach each end to it, then run a ground wire to the other connection on the capicator, right?

Is it best to place the capacitor close to the battery end of the cable, or the amp end? Any tips on installation would be great!

Matt

In my Buick, I had the cap mounted right next to the amps in the trunk. Your install sounds correct, but my brother installed mine. He's a damn stereo guru. Built his own custom system (several times!) for his '93 Alty. Email him at [email protected] and tell him I sent ya. He can help with any install tips for just about anything stereo-related.

Mount the cap closer to the amp, so there is less looss off the power wire from the cap, if it's near the battery it will do no good. You got it right with how to install it, when I get mine I had to charge the cap, it came with a resister that you connect to the positive side of the cap, and the hook the power wire to the resister. I believe thats how I did it, you will probally have to charge it not sure how all caps work. Good luck.

ok....i've got my selection narrowed down to the audiobahn ACAP1Q or the Stinger SC201MC. There isnt much price difference, but what I'm wondering is what does the volts/surge ratings mean?

the Stinger is rated at 16 volts nominal and 20 surge, while the audiobahn is rated 24 nominal and 30 volts surge.....anyone know if this is output from the cap or what? In other words, explain to me what the deal is with that.

Any info is appreciated.

x volts/x surge= number of volts which is constantly feeding your thump, surge is when the thump is needing of extra power, which it flies all the way to x number listed. What cap does it this:

When you are using high powered subs and amps, it's going to need more power feeding the thump, hence when you don't have a cap you might see that your lights dim when a base note hit. Cap charges up and when your amp needs the extra boost it sends the extra power.

When installing caps don't 4get there is also a remote turn on wire, that taps onto the blue wire of your amp.

Thanks for the reply Two-Forty

so in other words, the higher the volts nominal and surge, the more power the cap will supply to the amp?
