Hi All,

I am new here. I currently own an Audi A5, 3.2, Quattro. I was offered to upgrade to Audi S5 which is a great car, but v expensive to maintain.

I went to see the g37s coupe today - there is one in white, beautiful. Fair price as well... Audi folks heard about that - and told me Infiniti a Japanese junk and that its an over paid Nissan.. but I was expecting that..

Anyone here was (or is) in the same dilemma? Is the G37S as good as the Audi?

What do you think?

Would appreciate your opinion

Thanks

A

CR isn't the end all, but it is one resource that I use.

OK, now lets compare the CR Reliability charts on Audi and Infiniti...no comparison.

My advice would be to go test drive a G today!!

I researched my 09 G37x sedan for a month before buying it.

i compared it to many other makes and models, including Audi.

after looking at CR, MT, CnD, JDPower, etc., it became obvious that the Infiniti was the best value for the $, and is an absolute blast to drive and ride in.

come join the fun and the camaraderie.

you won't be disappointed!

SGI-

As the others pointed out, the G37 is a very solid car, with a great reputation and an absolute blast to drive. I recently bought my first one after spending a couple of months researching everything I could find online and test-driving a few different vehicles.

Audi makes nice cars, and the S5 is a probably a good vehicle. But it's considerably more expensive than a G37, especially once you start adding options. Audi's website lists the starting price at $52,400, and I didn't feel like it offered much, if anything, more for all of that money.

I would suggest test driving them both, and then asking yourself which you like more. If you do wind up liking the Audi better, and I doubt you will, ask yourself why it costs $20,000 more and whether it's worth it.

You might remind the Audi dealer that they are selling overpriced VWs. There is more overlap between VW and Audi than between Nissan and Infiniti.

Your question about Infinitis versus Audis reminds me of the little kid who wrote, "Dear Santa: Define good."

I think the German brands still are a bit more refined than Infiniti. The gap between them got much narrower when the G37 replaced the G35.

Infiniti's lower price makes it a better bargain than any of the German brands.

Do you plan to keep the car past the end of the warranty? If so, Infiniti is the clear winner. Out of warranty, German brands are far more expensive to maintain.

If you like Audis, can afford the higher price, and don't plan to keep the car too long, I would say go with an S5. Otherwise, get an Infiniti.

I looked at the S4 and M3...almost double the cost of the G37, and for what? They are great cars, no doubt...but I couldn't rationalize why not get an Infiniti. I also looked for used M3's...but even those were more then a new G37. Finally, the 335i was the closest...but 10k more for the same options.

The other thing is the reliability of the Audi and BMW. Past owners didn't have nice things to say about the Audi. The 335i has a fuel pump issue that can put drivers at risk if it fails when you need it.

Test drive everything and get the car that will work for you and your budget.

Do you buy underpants what your friends tells you or you buy it on your own? LOL Why would you care what others say? I drive the car and if it fits me I take it. I could not really care what my friends or neighbur say about it.

As others say the Audi and BMW or perhaps many other Europian carmakers can't really make reliable cars. For me it is important to have a reliable car since I drive it every day.

Infiniti G is = Nissan Skyline in Japan.

BTW Audi is overpriced VW or Skoda

Infiniti is overpriced Nissan

Lexus is overpriced Toyota

Acura is overpriced Honda

And the list goes on.

Just drive what fits you and screw the rest of the world. You'll be a happier man.

I just switched from an Audi A3 to the G37. I love the Audi, still do. But like others have said, it costs a lot more to maintain after the warranty is up, and will have more frequent problems compared to the Infiniti, I'm sure. Just the DSG alone scares me without warranty. Debated for months whether I should keep the Audi but finally got the G37. It's not as refined as the Audi, but it's not far off. For the price, it doesn't compare. There is nothing you can get in this price range that offers the power and options that the G does.

Worst advice ever.

Infiniti makes a great product - I prefer them over Audi or BMW. Buy one preowned & save money. Do it!

I wanted Audi when I was shopping for a car. Reliability was important, Audi wasn't on the list for reliability. They make good looking car though. RS5 is bad (_*_)...

The only 3 cars I was interested in were the G37, Audi and BMW.
I owned a BMW 540i, years ago. I got it fresh off a 2 year lease with a 4 year and 100,000 mile warranty (minus the 13,000 miles that were on it). I really liked that car, but everything on it kept breaking. I was always bringing it in to get something or other fixed. Just a few months after the 4 year warranty ran out, I read about the problem with the new aluminum V8 engine because of the levels of I think it was sulpher, in the gas, used in this country. I didn't have an engine problem but thought it wise to get rid of it, before I did. Every place where I went to trade it in also knew about the engine problem, so I ended up taking a fairly good hit when I traded it for a Lexus GS 430.
The reason I went with the G37 was the great reviews for it, reliability and not wanting to take a chance on another German car. I was tempted but didn't want to worry about something breaking every time I drive the car. One of the pluses of the G37 is I don't see anywhere near as many on the road as BMWs.

I will most certainly give you kudos for coming into a G37 forum and ask us all. You knew the answers you were going to get from us, and my opinion certainly is no different. I also researched cars before I bought my G, and my research started differently, but that is a long story...which I will save for some other long reply.

I know you are comparing an Audi to the G37, so I will stay on task. If you want an all-wheel drive car, which since you are a current Audi owner I will assume that is something that is likely an important selling point. Simply, I love my G37xS! Because it is a rear wheel drive car, unless I choose it to be in all-wheel drive mode, OR if it senses slippage in snow or rain (or even in a quick start! ;) ). I love the fact that this car is a rear drive car when I want it to be. It gives you the handling of a true sports car (a la BMW, corvette, etc.), but when you need it, it is an all-wheel drive car. AND it handles quite well in the slippery stuff. I have put 15K miles on my car in less than a year, and the only complaint I have is that the OE tires are not going to last all that long (maye 5K more miles)....but, summer's coming so it all should be fine here in Colorado. I also own an Expedition, and I have no worries about bringing out the G in a snowstorm...in fact it's kinda fun to piss off the truck & SUV owners in the shiiity weather!

In summary, do your research, but mainly do what feels right to you. Again, thanks for asking all of us Infiniti owners what we think. Hope it has been helpful, as well as informative. Good luck in your venture.

Just get a G and keep it for 3 years. You pay less and you have warranty all the time. When you sell it after 3 years you can sell it with warranty.

Of course test drive it and see if you like it. Make sure you try different trims. Try the S and the X version too. S has stiffer seats. Some prefer to a softer ( No S) but some loves the sport seats.

I used to work on Audis and VW's. HATED IT. The comparison of Infiniti being an overpriced Nissan is a lot more relatable when it comes to Audi being an overpriced Volkswagen. Most Audi vehicles are seriously rebadged VW's with slightly different looks. As of Model Year 2010, and incoming 2011, You won't see a single Infiniti vehicle that is just a rebadged American Nissan product (except for the QX56 of 2010 and older). Every Infiniti is Japanese made/manufactured. Almost every Nissan is exclusively american made and american market. Infiniti is a lot more independent from Nissan than Audi is from VW. Or Acura is from H0nd@. or Lexus and Toyota. Or *sigh* Chrysler/dodge.
Right now, all Infinitis are very well made cars. Maybe you could let go of the A5 and lease a G for 2 years, see how you like it

As you can see from my previous car list, I have been a long-term Audi owner. I also was a Audi (Quattro) Club member and attended both the Ice Driving School in Austria and R8 School at the Infineon Track. I have also toured the Audi factory in Germany. I love Audis.

The A5 was the last car I considered before buying the G37x (and other Audis before buying my M). The car is bueatiful, drives wonderfully, and can have everything my G37x has. The Audi dealer is also a lot more convenient.

What it does not have:
1) Only a 6 speed auto in the states. You can get the car with dual-clutch in Europe.
2) About 15k more
3) Dealers that bargain. My biggest complaint about Minnesota Audi dealers - Quattro country. They discount less and would give me less trade-in on my M. The total amount discount was less than my Infiniti dealer game me on a car 15K less.

I love Audis, but I am not dumb.

:D
