I absolutely fail to comprehend the appeal of PVP in an MMORPG. I like playing against other humans in other types of games. But in these random-number-generated roll-of-the-dice online games, all the fun is sucked out of PVP. The win is not based on who has the most skill. It's based purely on who has sunk the most time into their character.I mean, yes, skill CAN enter into it. But someone like me who doesn't play often has no chance of beating someone who does play often no matter how good I get, simply because sinking more time into the game means you've got better gear and stats. It's all about gear.
I'll qualify the above with one exception, though:WORLD PVP is a blast. There's nothing more fun that just getting a bunch of friends and assulting a random town, taking out vendors, quest-givers, and flightmasters, etc.But even that is eventually (or more often very quickly) hampered by the game's "play more, do better" design. I'll get slain by some guy who hasn't left his computer chair except to crap in 3 months and then at that point there's no more fun to be had for me.
That's what a lot of people say about MMO PVP. There's not enough skill involved... but I dont care.
I rarely play single player games, unless it has a really cool story line. I only play to own up the noobs.
I play skill based games like CS, TF2, etc. That's a blast, I really love it. But I also like to grab me a sandwich, some chips, maybe a soda... then go walk around the world killing fools easy style.
Battlegrounds are alright, I only ever do those to get gear. Just like instances, they're a little too serious. Spend maybe a weekend just doing BGs, get my staff or w/e and I'm out.
Last night I chilled in STV just fighting everyone I saw. Awesome times. This weekend my friend who plays on this server (a hunter) are gonna sneak into IF again and get ontop of the AH and kill guards and whatever players are flagged
