I'm running an daily driven SR with an estimated 240hp and I'm using a Spec stage 2 clutch. When I bought the clutch I was trying to get an ACT from Enjuku and they were out of stock, and said the Spec was a better clutch and worked better/longer for them. I went for it and was please at the appearance of the clutch when it arrived.

The clutch and pressure plate were installed, and everything was torqued down properly. A new slave cylinder was installed and the system was bled and flushed with synthetic fluid. I did the recomended brake in procedure of going really easy and driving for 700 miles in normal traffic. I know they said 500, but I figured I'd rather be safe.

The clutch seemed great at first, but now with around 8000 miles on it, the car has become difficult to get into first gear from a stop. It started out where I couldn't downshift from 2nd to 1st at a slow roll without grinding, and now has gotten to the point where 60% of the time it won't go into first from neutral after I 1st start the car without grinding. Everyone I've talked to has said the clutch is the problem.

I know I've seen few others around here complain about problems with their spec clutches and I was wondering if there was anythign we could do about it. I don't have anything to put in place of the clutch if I have to send it back, but I also don't want to replace it with another unit that won't last me 5 months. I've heard that heavy duty/racing clutches don't last as long, but 5 months and 8000 miles is just a tad rediculous considering the car has never even been to a track and has been launched a handful of times.

That sounds like a clutch hydraulic problem, not an issue with the pressure plate or clutch disc.

How's the clutch pedal feel?

FYI, most the issues people have had with SPEC clutches is the disc disintegrating...doesn't sound like your problem.

Spec stage 2 is not the best setup- we avoid them, stage 3 is good piece. We have had alot of customers who have had problems with stage 1 and 2 on Sr powered cars.

I had a Stage 2 orginally, and put over 50k miles on it with hard, I stress hard, driving on it, clutch dumps all of the time. I never had any problems with it, always grabbed great. After 50k of my driving, after a burn out one day, the clutch wouldn't disengage, one of the springs popped out of the disc, and chewed up the fidanza flywheel i had, and got wedged in.

I just recently put in a stage 3 for my KAT, but I think we have too much power coming out of it, and it's starting to slip. Other than that I like them.

Damn, that's really suck. I'm swapping in my SR next week with the Spec 2 Clutch too. Hope mine will be ok :(

The clutch pedal feels great to me, and most ordinary people will stall the car the first time they try to move it and complain the pedal is harder than they're used to.

The slave cylinder is brand new, I don't have that stupid dampener box anymore, there is no loss of fluid, and the problem wasn't there for the first 5000 miles
