more or less anyone who's interested in this.

i found a ka 240 motor at a salvage yard around denver... this place is awesome as far as pricing

i can get the ka including all pumps and such for $200

i didn't check the miles but it looks to be in AWESOME condition.

how much would it cost me to rebuild the engine and how much is it in parts would it cost to mount it (ie tranny and clutch?)

and what all else is needed?

all help is great and thanks in advance

What did you grab the KA out of? 240sx or Truck?

As far as mounting I believe you must make a bracket for the driverside motor mount. IIRC

I would say the cost of rebuild is at least a timing chain kit and a gasket set which might cost around $250-300 shipped to your house and then around me it is usually $900 for the rebuild. Then resurfacing flywheel $35. New clutch $100 or so.

Make sure you have the full engine harness and ecu. I know in my 240sx with a KAe I can use either 5spd or auto ecu (some one told me the auto ecu on a 5spd makes more HP from the different fuel maps.)

What is your reasoning for the swap? Just to have a newer FI motor?

yeah i've been debating on getting a new carb or FI

the reason i wanted FI was so in the future i could turbo it but i think it'll be much more reasonable to just go with the carb

Personally I would love to replace the Z24 with a KA24, but it does seem like a quite a daunting task.

mmmm boost.

I used a KA motor out of a truck for the oil pan sump location. The 240sx motor has front sump and you interfere with the sway bar and steering linkage.

If you get a bare long block from a truck you can pretty much fit most of the 240sx parts onto it. The main components needed are the 240sx intake (complete) and engine harness. I took a 240sx fuse box to get the mating plugs to the 240sx engine harness and spliced it into the truck. So if I decide to go KA24DE or SR20DET (not likely) I have the plugs intact and can swith the proper wires.

thanks man... i had no idea about the differences between the two

crazy enough there is a ka block from a truck also laying in the lot but i'll have to look into as to condition... then i can pull all the other stuff off the 240

Well if you get the truck block and oil pan you should be Ok. The head will swap from a 240.

I was thinking about the ka24 swap but came across the SR20det, you can pick engine and trans up for like 1500 with all you need to drop it in (except motor mounts and a different driveshaft)
