Hey,I finally ordered my Microtech LT8 yesterday and was wondering if anyone could post about the installation process. Was it hard, complicated, easy, time consuming. I hope to have my car up and running within a few days of the system's arrival.Whatever you have to say about your experience with the system please post here.

thanks for your time and help!-Ian

good thing with microtech is you can hook it up as a standalone or as a piggyback that way you can keep your ac and stuff. it shouldnt be too hard.

yea, its got its own harness adapter and all, you just cut wires off your harness that control some engine functions and plug them into the microtech harness. it should come with all the diagrams and if not you can find them online. where did you order from? i heard great things about it when i went to touge factory last time, especially cost vs functions

Ask turbocorolla he has one running for about 8-10 months now.

For anyone interested in Microtech products, I would recommend to call Andy @ (305) 769 1877. Tel him Ryan from J & S Racing (curacao) send you.

BAD NEWS: Microtech is on 4-6week backorder from Tougefactory. I called Andy at that number listed and he said the price is 1300 for the LTX8. Unfortunately, I have decided that I can't afford a standalone system now because I still need to buy a downpipe, hotpipe, etc before the car is done. Anyone got a stock harness they wanna sell?

Yeah, for $1300 it isn't a bargain anymore. You don't need the complete harness, only the connectors. I just sold an SDS system to one of Sean's friend for a mere $850 which was crack-head, but I like what the kid is doing with his MR2 and the fact that he put his faith in me to get his car going, so I felt a need to hook him up.

For $1300, the market is open to many other standalone systems. They are all in competition price-wise and it all boils down to which one is more convenient and effective for your purposes. While microtec is popular and can be used with either a laptop or handheld programmer, the links EMS system or SDS seems to be the way to go for the everyday tuner.

I personally would take the SDS for the CA18DET because you get the opportunity to get rid of everything including the CAS whereas the microtec needs it for triggering.

Look towards oz to get better pricing on standalones.I've seen some guys run setups that cost under $800 shipped... but that was when the au dollar was slightly lower than currently.

sds can be had significantly cheaper via hitching onto other group buys, but probably same price Dee gets em, so it would seem more sensible to get a package from him to get u setup and running _quickly_, simply because he's experienced with it on the ca. If u get to see my buddys tearing out their hair from the frustration, trying to shortcut the learning curve of setting up a standalone... you'd realize the value of a fellow enthusiast to 'hold your hand' thru it.Those little dam magnets WILL drive u fvckn nuts if u don't get em exactly right.... especially if one flies out on ya. hehehU can save money doing it on your own, but not time. If u don't know what patience is, you'll find out then.

Took a minute to realize what I had done wrong, but those days of clumsines are in the past.

So how did you get it back out? I thought you glued them in. And if you do get it wrong, how does the car react?

Quote »So how did you get it back out?
If the epoxy doesn't set too fast, you may be able to retrieve it with tweezers. but the old school magnets are rittle and break very easily. If the epoxy is set, the only way to get it out is to drill it out which will cost you a magnet; then you 'll have to order another.

Quote »And if you do get it wrong, how does the car react?
It uses 2 magnets for triggering and one for synchronization. Screw up the Synch magnet and it's not cranking. Screw up one of the trigger magnets and you'll be missing 2 cylinders for spark and fuel.
