Car: should be obvious enough

Post

it appears as if you now share basic powerplants with the remaining racing R34 Skyline GTRs in Japan. [This may be old news, but I just learned this yesterday.]

So the question remains, who's going to fit the race-spec VQ35DETT into their daily driver?

it also appears that the application of a "NISSAN GTR POWER" logo on your boot lid has become somewhat less of a lie...

this would not apply to maxima, I30, I35 or Qx4 drivers (all FWD based). Same motor, difforent layout.

" basic powerplants " means "motor", and I made it a point not to mention transverse or longitudinal mounting, transmission, or driveline layout.

not that a swap would be impossible for any of the applications that I listed, but the concept was mentioned in jest.

personally I feel this engine has the potential to be a NA monster, perhaps upwards of 350 whp and similar torque at only slightly elevated RPMs (around 7100 or so).

people are getting 310 whp with ECU, boltons, and cams only. Head/intake machining, valve work, compression increase and some other common tricks will likely bring this up to at least 325 whp. Throw on a small shot of NOS (50-75 hp) and a fuel system upgrade you are looking at over 400 hp (can we say "surprise __________ (insert exotic car name here")

The displacement in this engine is something relatively new for nissan.

IMO, 400 hp is enough for my daily driver. It will be tricky keeping this thing on pump gas however.

3.5 L? you could just put some forced induction on and get a reliable 400 minimum, on pump gas.

just look at what you can get from the VG at 3.0L.

hard to say since i dont know much about the materials used in the VQ, valves would be a major consideration.

problem is nissan will probably never factory-tune a car to 400 since it can only claim 276 or whatever is the legal HP limit in japan. they already pushed it with the VH, VG, and RB.

which essentially means for us that nissans will always be nicely over-engineered and ready for us to modify.
