Greetings to all. I am new to this forum and a bit of a newbie when it comes to Nissan's also. The searches I performed on this topic were useless. I kept getting an error message and was notified that an email was sent to NICO. Anyway, to the point of this post.

I need to put a new clutch in my 1990 Nissan 4x4 p.u. When I drained the transmission, a magnet search revealed large pieces of a bearing cage. I don’t have the resources to have the transmission rebuilt and have found one at a local wrecking yard. It is a 1988 model.

I just discovered that in June of 1990 Nissan moved to a different motor (KA-24). I believe the older truck has a Z motor and need to know if the bell-housings and linkage are interchangeable.

Any comments, advise or tips are welcome, as well as the availability of a good used transmission that I can drop right in after I replace the clutch.

Thanks,2x2

i cant say for sure, but i think the bellhousing is the same. i am guess the linkage would be too, but i am less sure of that. only thing to do would be go and look. so your going to tackle a 4wheel drive trans? they can be tough.

oh, welcome to nico. anymore questions, just keep em coming.

compare the numbers on the transmissions ( model numbers) If they are the same it will bolt up. The wiring may take some figuring out they may be different. the shifter (linkages) should be the same.

look on the id plate under the hood one of the numbers on it is for the trans, if those 2 numbers match they are the same trans. the plate should be on the firwall near the passenger side.
