got 2 tags to fill. Late muzzleloader and my bow tag still. I've passed up 2 does with the gun and quite a few does with the bow throughout the early season. I'm looking for a big doe for the gun and a buck wtih the bow. I've never taken anything but bucks with the bow. This is my first year hunting with the gun. High powered rifles are not legal in Iowa.

Looks like a nice rifle and bow, I'm more for rifles, I like bows but I've just never had much of a chance to use one. Never used a compound one though. What caliber is the rifle? I've always been partial to the 12 pound parrot rifles. i'm sure it would be over kill on a deer though.

its a .50 cal blackpowder rifle. I have been bow hunting for 7 years. My dad got me into it when i was 12. I've had 3 different bows since then. I liek this new one the best. Its fast, quiet, and accurate. It's also short axle to axle and light. All of them are crucial for me to have.

I used a bow in High School once and I was horrible. I ended up shooting the side of the school. I got to fire a 12 gauge yesterday and put some serious holes in stuff.

I didn't take any pics of my other guns. I have another bow, a 12 gauge, .22 semi-auto, .410, and a 20 gauge. I also have quite a few pellet guns.

For the blackpowder rifle, what's the ammo like? They shaped more like bullets or like lead balls? You buy it or just melt you own? Sorry, most of my blackpowder rifles are civil war stuff so I don't know much about the newer ones. Do they actually use black powder, or do they use smokeless powder?

I wanted to go hunting with my uncle but his bows were stollen out of his truck. I think he has a new one but I haven't seen him in awhile.

I shoot sabots. They are a .44 cal pistol round. I load it with 100 grains of pyrodex powder. ONe could shoot the old round balls if s/he wished, but most don't anymore.

I piddle around with bows, not good enough to hunt with them. I'm a rifle guy myself, 7mm Mauser for deer. With these damn Florida deer I think I could take them down with my CRKT. If my currect obsession with sporting clays dwindles, I might take up blackpowder. Extend my hunting season ehehee.

I was thinking of getting into archery and buying a good compound bow. I always loved rifles since I was young, but there's an archery range nearby and I always wanted to go. Any recommendations on a good beginner to intermediate bow? I'm thinking of spending around 200 or so.

Some of the lower end pse's can be had for cheap. If I were you I would go to your local proshop/sporting goods store and try to get into a used bow set up. That'd be your best bet.

LOL... you hit a deer with a 20mm round and you'll have nothing but hooves.

I wouldn't deer hunting wtih a high powered rifle. I enjoy hunting the most with my bow. I feel most connected to nature only being able to take shots 50 yards and in. THe blackpowder is for taking meat for the freezer. The bow is for takinga trophy deer

.50 BMG?

Do you actually own something that takes that round? That's awesome.

They'll go through the turrets of most tanks.

I use an array of guns... usually hunt with a M1A. I prefer a more powerful weapon as it's less likely to make the animal suffer if the shot is offtarget. Especially the M1A cause you can follow up shots quickly.

I understand not wanting the animal to suffer, that is why I only take clean shots with my bow. I make sure that I always hit the vital area. I never want to see an animal suffer and try to make my shots as clean as possible.

-]sTm[-....

what's with the 12 channel mixer? Are you a sound tech or DJ or something?

Anywho...

I'll have some pics to post up tomorrow. My old man and I are driving to Boston to pick up some more guns for the collection. If there's any gun enthusiasts or collectors here... you'll appreciate the acquisition we're about to make! It includes a bunch of original Mausers and a couple other special surprises.

Hey Altiman! Did you fill those tags? I took a big doe at Thanksgiving, let a bunch of does walk Christmas Eve and haven't seen anything else this year! It's like they've all gone into hiding.

I haven't gotten into bow hunting yet, but I hear you won't like rifle hunting if you do. I use a 300 Wby Mag. I like to take long shots.

See you in the woods
