From what I've heard, KA blocks can't handle boost as well as other's, so I'm trying for a low end budget turbo set up.

14b turbo from a Mitsu, using the turbo manifold from an sr20.z32 MAFSWalbro 255 pumpSR20DET 370cc injectorsGReddy Type S BOVand an SAFCII for tuning.

It's a very basic hot turbo setup, butt I wanted to catch ideas. (BTW - I'll end up paying somewhere around $500 for all of the parts.

Anyone see any pro's-con's with the setup?

You heard wrong about ka's not being able to handle boost. It's like any other motor, tune it well and it will last.

Why use a 14b from a dsm? It's going to cause you more headaches than it's worth. Pick up a used t25 for about the same price, especially if you are going to use a sr manifold. You can pick up cheap manifolds on ebay with a t2 footprint. And as stated, you need injectors..

I was gonna use the DSM 14b because it was available from a buddy of mine, and I wasn't sure if I could run without an intercooler with the t25.

+1the ka handles boost well. but fuel management is the most important thing. ironically, it's also the thing that most people spend the least money on.

Buy a cheap side mount intercooler--Junk yard turbo kits work just work out all the details.

One of the cheapest routes to a KA-T is scavenging parts from the SR.

T25/T28 turboside mount IC and BOV370cc injectors

The stock KA MAF and 370cc injectors are good til ~240-250whp, so you dont need the Z32 MAF yet. You can get a cheap Ebay T2 manifold or reflange the SR manifold as you mentioned.

Good luck!

I think for sub 250whp, timing management isn't so important, so long as the turbo isn't as small as those you'd find on a Hyabusa.

For the first three months of my KA-T project, I ran a VERY small turbo (smaller than a T25) with an OLD SAFC (knobs...no display, just knobs...only five of them), Walbro and about 8psi of boost. Oh yeah, there was no intercooler at all. Did just fine with the timing knocked back about 5* and the fuel trim kinda rich (sub 12:1 range).

I'd say ditch the Z32 MAF, get at least a SMIC, spend about $150 on an SSA T25 bottom mount mani, get the T25 from an SR and rock on, boosting around 8-10psi. You'll have plenty fun with it.

I picked up a stock DSM sidemount for free, now looking for the T25.

Manifold will be ebay'ed.

Injectors and fuel pump will come soon, as well as SAFC.

Should I run the SR20 ECU?

No, stock KA ECU with the SAFC will be fine.

The 1st gen DSM BOV is a nice piece too. Maybe you can find one of those...
