I am planning to attempt to build a custom sub box using fiberglass (which I have almost no experience with), but you gotta try sometime or you will never learn.

My question is in regards to the volume of the box being made to spec. of the sub. I have the Pioneer Champion Series Pro (TS-W2501D2) and it has a recommended enclosure of '0.35 ~ 0.7 Cubic Feet'.

What is the best method to measure the volume? and if there is more/less volume, what are the side effects?

Best way to measure an odd shaped box is to fill it with packing peanuts, then pour them into an enclosure, or anything, that you know is of a specific size.

For example, if you dump the peanuts into a 5 gallon bucket and it fills it half way up, then you know your enclosure displaces 2.5 gallons, which equals about 1/3ft^3

Regarding sealed enclosures...Small (Qtc over 0.9) = peaky, aka boomy, high frequency bass, reduced output below the "tuning" of the system (both enclosure and driver) which means a sharp roll-off of the bottom end (less deep bass), increased mechanical power handling.

large (Qtc below 0.55) = Not boomy, gradual roll off towards the bottom end, meaning more low end bass output for the same amount of power input, decreased mechanical power handling.

If you want graphs as a visual, I can make you graphs.
