Attack of the Datsun Trucks

Ok... so not really...

I had a test and tune today for this weekend's Rocky Mountain Autocross Divisional. The track owner, Bob Boileau, is another Datsun truck racer... so he brought his truck out of the shop and we snapped a few pics.

So... NICO's autocross truck, and Bob's MX520! (the MX520 is basically all Miata and a real feat in engineering... even if it does look like a stock Datsun from the outside )

Was there another 86 there? I think Van is near that region, runs FSP.

well... considering that dorsey's car has gotten as ridiculous as you can imagine for this year.... i did awful... still beat the other EP entries by over 4 seconds on day 1... but dorsey killed us all. i also didn't run day 2... so i'm labeled with a DNF

Van did great! he ran what he called the best run of his life, had he not coned it, he would have beaten Iain Mannix, which was good for 3rd in the overall results. Van's fastest (raw time) runs were 71.992 and 70.786 on day 1 and day 2 respectively. Dorsey's co-driver ran 65.707 and 65.464 respectively. I wish I would have been able to take pics of the new suspension they put under that thing... not to mention their new *cheater* tires that they say are good for over 1.5sec per run over the A6's . Maybe if I'd actually start building my truck... and get the still H-Stock legal suspension out of there, I'd stand a better chance. We won't talk about my embarrassing times. The fact that I was still able to be over 4 seconds faster than the other 2 EP entrants amazes me, because I ran like a**. The "corvette" course we ran was not friendly on those who make sub 100 HP

Yea, Van is good people. We've been talking recently on setups and such as I'll be FSP next year, so it's been a lot of me picking his brain on things. Next year I'll be using his wheel setup.

LOL, you're in a race bias tire class. Get you some Hoosier qualifying tires and go to town! They're ridiculously soft, even cold. One of my friends here who runs a Lotus 7 uses them exclusively and when they're brand new they have an asinine amount of grip. Chat up some of the C Prep folks and see if they have some used ones to sell, they usually have the biggest stockpile of them laying around.

Yea, we have vette courses too, as seen from my vids. Our course designers are FS Shelby drivers, so I tend to get destroyed at times in SM (placed 4th of 6 at our divisionals) where I cant keep up with 400+ hp cars on the straights.

well.. the sad part is that van's car has easily an extra 15 HP over me (i'm assuming yours does too). Not to mention the coilovers and such. My HS legal suspension doesn't cut it. I'm down on power... down on handling... oh well. Still, i ran terrible on saturday. I lost over 3 seconds to the other people i compare myself to (Wenzel Dorsey and Mayfield). 2 seconds of that was course, 1 second was me just pissed off at the course... because i could literally have driven it one handed while drinking a cup of tea. i lost 2 seonds of time to the 400+hp cars by the first corner... it was quite frustrating.

But Van is awesome... me and him were havin' fun afterwards drinking beer and watchin' videos and such.... he was wearing doctor's scrubs
