I just read it and I can charge by the mile for driving....I wonder how much they pay per mile. I don't get reimbursed for gas, just mileage....argh.

my jub for a surveying job did that. We would normally drive in the work van but if you drove around on the clock to run to the court house or to a job they would reimburse you for milage. Its nice

Thanks guys......I'm not sure if I want to work there, but might as well go. And I'm definately going the night before and just getting a hotel so I dont' have to drive 3.5 hours before my 11am interview. I figured it out at $.30/mile I'll get about $130 round trip just for mileage.....woo hoo.

Uh ... be careful not to abuse the food thing! Ask if they have a norm that they allow per meal, or ask for per diem info (hotel and all) that their employees use. And obey these values!

First, this makes you look more professional and second, if you do not abuse it, then it comes across as more responsible.

The mileage thing is easier - just keep track of the actual miles carefully (this is an expensable item for them and they will need data to justify to the IRS if they are audited) and give them the 0.30 times the miles total.

And, of course, good luck with the interview!

Good luck to you. It'll be a good stepping stone till you can get down south to Smyna, TN or Camden, MS and work for the good guys...

like szhosain said, be careful. I had that offer once and it turned out that the interviewer saw the request for reimbursement- could have looked really bad had i gone overboard

Yep - Get the job then worry about a measly $130.

Expense accts are nice, esp if you get the meal per diem without receipt. My old job was $38 per day food allowance. I ate off the value menu and gave myself a nice raise each time I traveled!

Exactly!

Good companies will always re-imburse for normal and reasonable travel costs and meals for candidates they bring in for interview, so it is not necessary to bend over backwards. Just don't push it in an unreasonable way!

Basically, you need to show good judgement skills while the job offer is not yet made (let alone firm!)

Most big companies do that. Just another tax write off. When I moved for my co-op my drive was 350 miles...I got reimbursement of about $182. And I slao rented a U-haul which they reimbursed in full. BTW I'm doing my co-op at DENSO.
