We'll so much for our 14 years of trouble free injectors!I had a feeling the Democratic Corn Farmers would win, luckily I've been collecting new injectors over the years now have 4.This may be the end of the 90-93 Q in the South as the transition period [first 6 months] might be heart wrenching for many who have skated along with low costs.

Start changing fuel filters on Feb 1 then every 90 days. They promise that they will steam/vacuum clean all the gasoline station tanks but that is impossible.............the water!

I will need 52 pints of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol per year.Maybe a special water trap fuel filter before the regular filter.

20-25 tanks to D Day.

Will the dreaded death fuel spread outside of metro Atlanta (say to Columbia)? How does this Isopropyl Alcohol trick work... just add a bottle with each tank to absorb the moisture?

vs. MTBE, your cars are probably happy! I'm not sure which one is worse, MTBE or ethanol.

If I had to choose, I'd choose ethanol. If I didnt have to choose, I'd go with with neither of course!

I just took a road trip from FL to WI, and on the way, I averaged about 325 miles per tank on 87octane.

I saw a gasstation that was selling premium(92) for the same price as regular gas. So I filled up there. After I payed, I saw the sign that said 10% ethanol added, and I thought oh, crap, thats gonna screw something up. I remember reading something about ethanol being bad for an engine.

On that one tank of gas, I got about 375~400 miles. There was no difference in acceleration or idle. Are you gonna continue telling me that ethanol is bad?

Can someone actually explain what ethanol does to engines?

Ethanol is hygroscopic. It also will degrade some plastic components, like fuel injector bodies.

The increased mileage was most likely due to the increased octane allowing the engine to run at the timing for which it was designed, rather than being constantly retarded by the knock sensors.

There are some great previous posts about why not to run the tank below ¼ full, and the effects of regional formulations of gasoline in the US.

Not the ethanol per se, just the water that come with it........of course the 3-5% lower BTU per gallon does affect mpg.

And the fact that ethanol production cost more in imported oil use than it saves...........fertilizers, tractor fuels, fermentation, it must be transported to terminals by truck or rail.

Is ethanol a unique problem to older Nissans? Or will many cars start to have problems with this gas?

Is there a cutoff year when injectors were designed to cope with the problem?
