This is for Fred and anyone who has experience with this. One of my friends put ATF in his oil and has had it in there for about 600 miles or so. I thought that it was bad to leave it in there so long. I know the ATF acts as a detergent, but what is the proper way to do this?

Whenever we do this ... we dont leave it in more than 50 miles or so..I know there is something about the fact that it cant take as much heat and will break down faster...also I have heard that it will create a kinda sludge if it gets to hot ...guess thats why it keeps cool in the rad huh.. anyway .. my advice is to get it out of there as soon as possible.

And so does motor oil. ATF is too thin for a engine.

Yes, do not do it at all. It is a old wives's tale.
