Hi to all, I'm changing the fluid this weekend and would like to know do I need to order the kit from Joe, or can I just get the transmission filter. I called the local INFINITI dealer and they told me that they do not have anyfilter for transmission, that the old pan just get cleaned when doing fluidchang .

thanks

If you are dropping the pan, you will need filter, pan gasket, and one time use bolts- get from Joe.

If you are just exchanging ATF, without changing filter, you just need the best fluid you can afford {full synthetic Mobil 1 at least}

Suggest you read some posts.

You own't be able to exhange the fluid by yourself, only dilute the old fluid with some new.

Take it to Jiffy-Lube and get a T-Tech fluid exchange or just do 6 drain/fills at home to safely and effectively replace 85% of the fluid. I would not let anyone talk you into using any chemical soup additive to "clean" the transmission.

Only if you trust minimum wage pit monkeys? Every G50 that sees a JF is Fubared eventually.

BG Quick Clean for automatic transmissions is a good chemical flush, but unnecessary unless your ATF is noticeably visually degraded.

Not tryin' to bust your bawlz, but if we're talking simply a fresh fluid exchange, how exactly does Jiffy Lube mess up every G50 trans? You state that a flush is unnecessary unless the fluid is discolored. Provided that one verifies the fluid level is correct immediately after leaving the shop, how can they mess up a fluid exchange? Following your reasoning, my car does not require a BG flush as my fluid is nice and pink. I am simply trying to find the easiest, cleanest way to have my fluid changed out since my exotic bucket idea seems to have gone down in flames.

Only because my domo' is a condo am I concerned about the cleanliness aspect. Hate to rankle the members of the hood, nomesane? Lest they cap my a$$. The Condo Nazi's can be quite unpleasant.

2.) You state that a flush is unnecessary unless the fluid is discolored.
1.) Usually starts by approaching the filter from the top, thus FU the MAF connectors and whatever else they touch. If from the bottom, then the under engine tray is only undone on one side and bent down. If they are smart enough to take it off, they are not always smart enough to reinstall it, especially with all the fasteners.

You really need to read some previous posts. It's all documented there.

2.) Not at all. To the contrary, it is best changed before there is any discernible color or olfactory detectable change, which disappoints technicians to no end when they cannot show brown fluid being extracted. When there is visble color change via the white papaer towel test, then the transmission is overdue for new fluid and damage has occurred.

Minimum wage Pit Monkeys can do hundreds of dollars of damage in just one visit. Good to converse with them first to see if they are cogent beings and understand enough English to follow instructions. Never be afraid to tip for good service. Of them all, JF is the worst. Of the reamining competent better ones, you usually won't save money over the dealer's service, and the dealer will have a tech look at it while it is on the rack for any likely problems. Their kids wear shoes too, which cost.

Regarding your replies:

1) Are you talking about changing the OIL filter? This thread is about the trans fluid, not oil. 'qship96' recommended JL and their T-Tech fluid exchange. As far as the OIL filter change, I always do mine form the top as it is insanely easy to reach. I cannot fathom having hands big enough or clumsy enough to damage the MAF or its connector. There is a gigantic hole after the fresh air intake is removed and access is simple. I see no sense in attacking it from underneath. In the time it takes to remove and reinstall the shield, I am done and dumping my waste oil at autozone. The most time consuming aspect is raising and lowering the car.

2) Flush versus Exchange here, and an important distinction in this thread. You stated in an earlier post that an exchange was adequate unless the fluid was discolored. Only because my fluid is pink and appears fresh am I leaning toward fluid exchange and not a machine flush.

1.) In assessing JL competence, if they cannot do a simple oil change correctly, you don't think you should not be concerned about their competency to service your transmission? Be sure to get some of those cheap tires from Pep Boys and trust your brakes to Midas too!

2.) There is no exchange of ATF without a pump and a more than adequate supply of fresh ATF! Drain and fill is just a dilution and dow nothing for particles, varnish, or heavy congealed expired ATF. Pressure and chemicals (when indicated) are necessary.
