You only need to worry about this if you are running a very high hp build and a strong automatic (like the one SZ sells). Under normal conditions, you will NEVER need this. What made you focus in on a flex plate???

Marty - Im in the process of doin a very expensive rebuild and i just read something on one of these Z companies that wrecked 3 of them before switching to SZ flexplate.
Not familiar with what kind of damage can be done to the engine side if one turns to shrappnel. I am estimating to be around 500whp. Is this not something i need to be considering yet?

for 500hp, i would get the upgraded specialtyz flexplate, even for 450hp, i would.
i'm running that right now, it's really for reliability more than anything.
i would also get an automatic transmission cooler.

Yea, I would probably upgrade if I was doing what you are doing. The flex plate tends to "grenade" due to the stress. It sends shrapnel everywhere when it does. Like I said, under normal conditions, it's not a problem. But, if you are going to 500rwhp, then it's probably a good idea. It certainly can't hurt.

It would help if you updated your profile to put what type of Z you have as I couldn't tell if you had a TT or an NA.

Happy Halloween! Digging a thread up from the grave, bringing on the spook...

I sent my flexplate to the afterlife on a 2/3 shift. I rather not get a used one, just to murder it. The SZ flexplate is discontinued, so... what other options are out there?

Custom will likely be your best choice and with your skills it should be no issue to get the measurements and specs together even if it means getting a hold of a sacrificial one. Hell I may have one I can let you have for free (just pay shipping).

That’s what I figured. Just another custom part to add to the list.

If you happen to have one you want to pass on, I’ll take it. :bowrofl:

OH hell I completely forgot about this. I did do a bit of rearranging in the garage recently though and sadly the flexplate was nowhere to be found.

The one I found seems like it was a scam, or the seller is just really flaky. So I'm back on the hunt...

If I had the funds I would just buy the BDE TH400 kit sitting on ebay; they wouldn't sell me the SZ flexplate by itself :gotme

Another thought I had, and I'm not sure its possible, but my idea is get a NA flexplate and a NA bellhousing and swap it over... Tho I'm not sure if that'll work lol.
