After the oil change at the dealer today I was informed that my car supposedly has a turbine sensor leak, and will cost $900 to fix. Apparently the leak is not severe and doesn't have to be done immediately. There is no leakage on the street or driveway, at least not yet. Would this problem be unusual for a 97 Q45 that had fairly clean fluid when the pan drop was done about 2 months ago? Is it possible that some residual fluid from the pan drop could have looked like a small leak? There is only 61,000 on the car and it seems to be in very good condition overall. I searched but most of the information seemed to related to the 1st generation models.

in order to replace the turbine sensor the transmission will have to be removed-as far as how long it will last-that is up to you-how long can you live with a leaking part-best advise is to save up and have the sensor replaced-this is fairly common-the fluid will leak up the sensor wiring and flow down the shielding and appear to have a leak at theoutput shaft area-but this is fairly common

Chris, most of the postings for the turbine sensor leaking have been on G50 and not Y33. If it is any consolation, mine did it at about 33K and had a fluid replacement done once before that.

The rear main engine seal is immediately accessible when the transmission is dropped, so it is a good time to replace this cheap part and avoid a repeat labor charge until much later.

Brian hit it on the nose. A while back I needed my rear main seal and turbine sensor done. The service writer told me that if I had hte rear main seal replaced, the turbine sensor would take 30 minutes to do.
