I have a 92 Vert with 150k miles on the stock trans. I have been reading on the forum that the auto trans. have problems. Was wandering if I should use some sort of additive to the fluid or drain the original fluid and use some Royal Purple Trans. Fluid to try and prevent any future problems.Or should I just leave it be until the time comes.I will be doing a complete SR20 DET Red Top or RB20 DET swap within the year anyways, any suggestions on which engine I should use.

THANKS FOR REPLY

If you haven't had a AT fluid flush or don't know when one was last completed, I would be proactive and get it done. Can't hurt.

Yeah, do the transmission fluid and filter, it's better than letting the transmission crap out and you getting stuck somewhere.

Plus, you never know if your swap will be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Guys- I brought my 93- with around 85k at the time into a Nissan dealer and asked the same question about my automatic. They said if you don't know what has been done, just leave it, they have seen more people change the fluid and loose stuck particles get dislodged from the screen or where ever and cause more problems. They said if it isn't acting up, just leave it alone. They could have made money and opted against it, so I took their advise. I now have 90k only on mine though.

I've only seen that advice given when someone knows for certain that the transmission has been abused/poorly maintained.
