ok so I want to do a 5 speed conversion

I have my automatic driveshaft

I have a HICAS 5 speed driveshaft

now everyone says the hicas pumpkin is different, accounting for the shorter driveshaft... my brother just reused his old driveshaft and it still worked with the hicas pumpkin...

so there is play in the driveshaft, there is a slip yoke that moves inside the transmission and I believe the two driveshaft pieces themselves have another splined area where they can move into and out of each other.....

so what exactly is different between an automatic and manual driveshaft? could I use a piece from my automatic driveshaft and a piece from the Hicas driveshaft and mate them together to make one driveshaft? could I just use the hicas driveshaft by itself and call it a day?

See most two piece driveshafts are balanced together, so taking a piece from one and another piece from a seperate driveshaft could give some balance problems.....

I'm just trying to do this as cheaply as possible........

thx for any words of wisdom

There is no slip yoke in the center. The two halves are bolted directly to each other.

The differences between the shafts is the length of the forward section. The rear sections are made to length based on if the car has ABS or not.

Nissan balances their driveshafts seperately I believe, so you shoudln't run into any vibration issues. I've ran many cars with hodge podged driveshafts with no ill effects.

So just take the 5 speed front shaft and mate it to your auto rear shaft.

thx, so I don't need to go find another driveshaft then!

pretty much the only thing I need to buy for a 5 speed conversion is a crossmember and brake pedal! can't beat that
