i'm about to drive that pile off a cliff...there's a switch in the steering column, when you have the car running with the key in the ignition and press the button on the shifter you should hear it click. i don't know if my ignition is getting loose so the key doesn't sit tight or what but it works now. one more thing is that sometimes the shifter needs to be pulled back slightly for the button to go in.

thanks to MinisterOfDoom and NutriaForBreakfast for trying to help me figure the problem out

now i'm gonna go look for a good size hill...

no biggy. the fix was...temporary and the shifter locks up again. i've noticed that when i press the button and wiggle the shifter back and forth it will go in all the way and let me shift. thinking maybe it's the latching mechanism underneath? started when i had to lock my brakes up on i-90 in traffic and my soda spilled over the shifter. next weekend when i get my another day off i'll look into that. maybe spray some brake cleaner and wd-40.
