1996 240SX SE: My car is an automatic. When I got it the shifter was missing the shift button, so I replaced the shifter. When I did I shorted something in the AT control box and now I can't turn the overdrive off, which I would like to do because it shifts at about 2500-3000rpm:( The transmission works fine otherwise. A new factory AT controller is ~$500 but while I was searching for one, I found this:

Does anyone have any experience with this or an opinion on if it is a good/bad idea? It is $700 and lets you set your own shift points or set up a 'manumatic', assuming I can figure out how.

Hi fellow huntsvillian 240 driver! That link isn't working for me...It looks like the link was abbreviated somewhere along the way because of all those periods. Does your transmission ALWAYS shift into 4th at that low of RPM? I also have a automatic (I want a manual, but it's too expensive to swap it or buy a new car) and if I just floor the crap out of it, it won't shift until like 5000-6000RPM going like ninety. If I'm just passively driving around town, mine usually shifts at RPMs like that too.

Will a S14 manual transmission fit in the trunk/backseat of an S14? Asked another way: Can I use my automatic S14 to bring home a manual transmission?

I think so. iirc the bell housing is just slightly too big. I would say get some plastic from home depot, put it over your passenger seat. and put the transmission there.

Just pull your passenger seat and rear seat... now you have points to strap to and nothing but carpet to leak onto... easier to cover the bare interior with plastic. Thats how I get my snow tires to the tire shop for mounting
