1996 240SX SE: My car is an automatic. When I got it the shifter was missing the shift button, so I replaced the shifter. When I did I shorted something in the AT control box and now I can't turn the overdrive off, which I would like to do because it shifts at about 2500-3000rpm:( The transmission works fine otherwise. A new factory AT controller is ~$500 but while I was searching for one, I found this:

Does anyone have any experience with this or an opinion on if it is a good/bad idea? It is $700 and lets you set your own shift points or set up a 'manumatic', assuming I can figure out how.

Why don't you just go to a junkyard and get another unit?

For $700, you can do a lot more productive things to your car (since you have pretty good control, relatively, w/ d2, d3 with a working at control unit).
