I'm at a loss. Did a compression check and 5 cylinders are at 180 and number 5 is at 176. Car stumbles horribly, won't hold an idle til it warms up and even then, barely idles an eventually dies. Seems like it has a huge vacuum leak but I can't figure out where. Is there any way to check the lower intake gasket? When I had the plenum off, I looked at it and saw no obvious signs of leaking, but I know that's not 100%.

If there is anyone in the San Antonio area that would be interested in helping, I'll pay you. I just need this car to run or the wife is going to leave me. Lol.

Any an all thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you done anything with the MAF or IACV?

What would be the result of a clogged cat or muffler? The car did sit for about 2 years.

Also, if I unplug the iacv, I get no difference in the way the car runs. Would this rule out the iacv being the problem?

I'd go ahead and do a Idle Control Adjustment: http://z32.wikispaces.com/Idle+Control . After this when you plug the AAC connector back in, the RPMs should rise. If not, maybe you do have a IACV/AAC issue.
I'd also test and set your TPS: http://z32.wikispaces.com/Throttle+Position+Sensor

If you're in San Antonio, hook up with ZSport. Pretty sure they will help you wrench on your car if you join.

There you go. Also clogged converter would give you trouble after driving it for awhile it'll lose all power under load til you turn the car off and restart it to let exhaust depressurize.

Check the MAF, make sure its the correct OEM one since the previous owner replaced. It should have a orange label with N62 on it. If it doesn't, that could be your problem. The ECU doesn't like aftermarket ones from the parts stores.

correct me if im wrong, but if the maf was the problem, then wouldn't the car run correctly if I unplug the maf? I have tried running the car with and without the maf connected and get no difference.

on another note, it does NOT have an N62 on it. I will replace it for sure now, but like I said, I get no difference with the maf unplugged.

I'm done. If anyone wants to buy a clean 90 n/a that needs someone to figure out what stupid little sensor is causing this stupid car to be so stupid and not run, let me know.

I adjusted the tps and the iacv. I have over a grand into this stupid thing with absolutely no result.

Anyone have an n/a motor for sale in San Antonio?

Seriously though. I'm going to buy a new nissan MAF and hope for the best.

If you unplug the mass airflow sensor and there is no change, there is a problem in that circuit. Look under concept Z performance, they have used ones fairly cheap, well cheaper than brand new. Im not promising that will fix it, but either way is not helping anything.

Have you checked the ecu for codes? Don't rely on the check engine light, actually go and pull codes from the evu.

What spark plugs did you use?
What injectors did you get? New or used? New or old style?
You sure the plugs are correctly on the injectors and coils?
Have you done a balance test?
Is your timing set correctly?

Don't give up on the car, they can be very finicky and pissy at times, but worth it in the end.

Yea, that's a huge red flag if the engine runs the same with the MAF unplugged. Just pick up a N62 used, they go for $60-80.

Wutt?? New? Z1 sells used for $175 http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_in ... ts_id=1830 , but no one charges that much on the open marketplace. Check the classifieds here, or TT.net. I also use this Facebook group too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/227766473927972/ . Market price is typically $80-100. Edit: The second post currently on the FB page has one for sale for $80 shipped.

Don't give up on the car, they can be very finicky and pissy at times, but worth it in the end.

I got the injectors from shopinjectors.con. They are remans.
The plugs are the ngk. I got the ones that the fsm says to use.
Did a balance test this past weekend that resulted in finding 2 coils that were out. Replaced them and adjusted the iacv and the tps and now it holds an idle but has lost all power. I couldn't even pull it up my driveway.

The plan now is to replace the MAF with a known working n62 version and if that doesn't work, I will just pull the motor and rebuild it. I planned on rebuilding the motor eventually but wanted to get it running and driving for a while before I put her down for the winter.

Thanks for all the help. I'm not giving up. Just pissed that I made the rookie mistake of spending a s*** of money before truly diagnosing the car and it's issues.

Not really, I tried a new MAF, replaced coolant temp sensor and ptu with no results. I just received my conzult stuff yesterday so as soon as I get a chance, I'll plug that in and I should get some ideas off of that. If nothing, then it's gotta be timing or I did the compression test wrong. Either way, I'm headed for a rebuild I think.
