Hi everyone,I am having an intermittent problem with my 92 240SX Auto Transmission. I have seen this problem posted in this forum but I have yet to find a possible solution. The problem is that sometimes my transmission won't shift out of first gear. The only way to get it to shift to second is to turn the car completely off and restart it. I have changed the TPS as someone suggested and I have also done a complete transmission flush! What could possibly be the problem? I really don't think it's the transmission itself, since the problem is corrected when I restart the car. This has been going on now for about a year now and the local mechanics are baffled as to what is going on as they can't get it to act up on them. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did anyone actually look at the transmission? It could be the problem. If it is havnig trouble with fluid pressures in the valve body it won't be able to switch to 2nd. This COULD be fixed by shutting the car off and restarting because the pump is cut off and the fluid levels drop back down. This would then free up some piece of debris that is clogging a port or fluid passage.

sadly my 95 did that too. I wish I knew what the problem was but the transmission mechanics didnt have a clue either so I kinda fixed my problem and did the 5speed swap, I know thats what you didnt want to hear but at least I am satisfied now :)

did the trans shop do a line pressure check on the trans before they became baffeled? if not then they arent very good. I suspect it is more of a control problem but a line pressure check should have been done in the very begining of their diagnostics! If that aint it you are problably looking at a control unit problem or an input problem to the control unit. ie temp sensor, revolution sensor, tps input. Inquire about your line pressure readings from your trans experts.
