Advice on Coolant Smoke

Hi All,

I replaced both the thermostat and water inlet valves as well as the water pump and drive belt. This afternoon when I was filling up the system, I started hearing coolant leaking and found I missed one of the hoses that goes into the metal heater valve that runs parallel to the water inlet valve. Coolant was on top on the radiator and I did my best to clean most of it off.

I had a dead battery so I had to charge that up which took about 3 hours. When I went to start the car I noticed smoke coming from the exhaust manifold. I am sure that the coolant leaked around that area so I believe that is what was causing it. I immediately shut the car off and waited for it to cool off a little. Started it back up and it still did it again. I may be just putting things in my head but I thought it also smelled a bit like oil burning.

I am going to leave it be overnight and see if the coolant evaporates. How much time do you think is adequate for burn off of the coolant? I just want to be sure I didn't mess something up with the water inlet valve or thermostat. The drive belt seems to be moving ok. Any advice would be appreciated.

Glycol evaporates very slowly in free air, you could be waiting all week. Either take it for a 20 minute drive and boil it off, or hit it with some motor wash to emulsify it and rinse it off.

Thank you once again for your help. The oil smell is probably the PB blaster/Kroil I used on the exhaust manifold bolts in case I needed to take those off. I'll warm it up tomorrow and burp the system.
