The engine does not start for my 1995 Infiniti J30. The check engine light came on Sunday night and Monday morning the car didn't start. All I hear is one click sound and that is all. I checked the battery by taking it to autozones and the reader said it was good reading at 12 something. I've been driving on the original alternator and starter. I assume the alternator is bad. How do I check it? First of all where is it? Do I need to change the starter as well? Do I need a more powerful battery? I need some guidance! I know what an alternator and starter looks like but where exactly is it located in the engine?

Thanks! It makes sense.I will start with the starter solenoid switch first.I know what it looks like but can you tell me where it's located? How do I remove it?I tried to look up on the internet step by step guide but wasn't able to find it.I worked on minor things on my car like oil change, air filter, etc. but not major replacements.

Everything is fully explained in the FSM Facory Service Manual..............impossible to do without for almost any replacement.

Please don't take this as being rude or offensive. But if you cant locate the alternator, I wouldn't advise you to work on your J.
