Hi all,

Was trying to upload pics but perhaps I dont have the priveledge yet...

My wife's friend was removing a suitcase thru the rear door and made a nice big scratch/gash in the bottom half of the door panel.

It is a white gash maybe 1/2 inch thick and maybe 12 inches long, against my black door. There is no paint transfer but was wondering if anyone can recommend something to make it less noticeable.

Called Meguiars, they have nothing and of course tried armor all and a few others but still pretty noticeable

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I used Nissan touch up paint to repair few scratches that I had on driver door side thanks to hanging keys one day and they are invisible now.

Though those scratches were not as big as yours.

I bought touch up paint at http://www.courtesyparts.com/ . First I used clay bar to remove wax from the scratched area . Then I applied multiple coats of the touch up paint until the paint became even and scratch disappeared. After 24 Hours I applied Meguiars Scratch X coat to match with the clear coat of the door. (I tried Nissan Clear coat but it looked a bit shabby). Later I reapplied wax. Its just fine now.

Hope this helps.

I use these 3 on my acrylic computer case from C3 company. I can't believe I spent $300 on a computer case and it it probably still expensive.

Actually Black Chome was not much more than a reformulation of Armour All. Both will hide fine scratches in plastic but neither will do much for fixing gouges or areas where the grain of the plastic has been abraded. Any products you have that were made for cleaning and/or polishing your dash should work to make the door scratch less noticeable. The closest thing to Black Chrome still on the market would be 271 Duragloss

Aerospace Protectant 303 is an excellent product (my personal favorite) for treating the plastic surfaces inside your car and will also hide fine scratches. Problem is its not cheap and is usually only found in boating / marine supply stores. Another good plastic polish (removes "fine" scratches is Plexus... I use it to "remove" (polish out) fine scratches and swirl marks from the my clear bra on my Rogue but its also expensive and hard to find locally (I order mine off the Internet).

That said the plastic panels panels inside the Rogue (and most cars) are not very durable when it comes to scratches. You could bend a plastic door panel in half without it breaking but can scratch with any hard surface (including another piece of plastic).

I also heard someone complaining about scratches from their shoes on the interior plastic of their Nissan Rogue and someone suggesting using a black permanent marker and smudging it with their finger will allow you to diminish the scratch to a point where it is practically invisible unless you really look hard. Obviously, this is the most budget-minded solution.

I think the most obvious solution to fix the damage would be to tell your wife's friend that he/she owes you $$ to replace the door panel that they damaged on your new car.

The other solutions mentioned (bumper dressing, Sharpee marker) are temporary at best and will only give you grief down the road.

The only way to permanently "fix" the scratch is to use a vinyl repair kit that includes a hot iron and a texture form that matches the grain of the door panel. But even that will make the plastic in the repaired area brittle.
