This is Jerry from site mentioned above, DIYAutoTune.com. You're right it's just batch fire... but the consensus is that sequential really buys you next to nothing when it comes to performance. It can minorly improve idle and low speed emissions, but when your engine is spinning at 4,000-10,000 rpms it doesn't really make a difference. The valves are opening and closing so fast that the fuel doesn't have time to pool up, and your injectors are generally running at pretty high duty cycle anyways which means they're squirting nearly all the time.
Plenty of cars have been successfully built and raced making tons of horsepower on the MegaSquirt. It's really not a very limited system at all. It just costs a bunch less so people are suspect... that's because noone, myself included, make much money per unit. B&G get a couple bucks per 'partial kit', I turn them into nicely labeled kits and sell them cheaper than you could get the parts separately, and also assemble them into complete units and sell them for about 1/4 the cost of the cheapest retail option that could compete.
http://www.turbotruck.net/Here's a link to a 4700lb truck running 10's on the MegaSquirt on street tires... complete with video. With an exhaust issue (55+ psi backpressure on the hot side) he put down 497hp and 475tq on a dyno... Since then he's corrected the issue and is making 640hp and 800tq on the turbo alone. Then he added a 100shot of NO2 and he's making 767rwhp and 1000rmtq!
There's a landspeed record vehicle running a Hayubusa engine (1.3l) at over 345hp. Here's a link to info:

Correction: After further tuning he made 409hp on 16psi in a 1.3 liter!!
I've got a guy in Missouri right now installing the MS on a twin-turbo V8 he expects to make 1500+ hp in a land speed racer....
There are plenty more examples like this.
Just figured I'd chime in as I hate to see the MS get bashed without reason... it's a great unit that can accomplish most anything you throw at it.
Jerry Hoffmann a.k.a. 'FoundSoul'BTW-- I've emailed the admins here to check into becoming a site vendor... just waiting to hear back.
