Me? I do not beleive I am guilty of profiling anyone. I just posted what is common knowledge. Cops equate a black or white, "thug" looking person/kid with trouble. By this equation, almost 50% of the population that is under 18 is trouble .

So, sinse it is Supposed that islamic/Middle eastern people Hijacked the airplanes on 9/11, does that mean that the people of the US should equate all midle-eastern looking people with hijackers? Hell know. That is a very, very stupid profile. And unfortunately, the citizens of the US are so inundated with BS by the media/government, that they do not realize that their rights are being revoked for the sake of "National Security".

[rant]Tell me something, do you feel safer now that the Government/Tax payers have spent billions/Trillions on "National Security"? If you do feel safer because all this money was spent, please let me know. I have a laser that is guaranteed to protect you from and asteroid hitting your car when you are traveling at 74MPH on highway 41, just outside of Ruskin, Florida.

Anybody want to buy the laser? It's only $1000 [/rant]

PMQ have you ridden a plane since(correct spelling) the 9/11 attacks? I have and it was a while after the attacks but I stil had thoughts going through my head when I got on a plane with two Middle-Eastern looking men. The fact that they were speaking Arabic and I had a good idea no one else understood what they were saying left me feeling a little uneasy. The plane ride went fine and I was not on my toes the whole time but I did have that initial thought of anxiety. Now I guess you completely have the right to say that I am a bad person for doing this since you "do not believe (you are) guilty of profiling anyone." But in my own personal opinion you are completely guilty of profiling police officers as a whole. Yes there are crooked cops and yes there are agencies to catch them. Just don't try to be an internet tough guy cause DAMN Greg looks scary and the fact that he is educated is even scarier.

The checkin crap these Unionized HSA goons make everybody dance around for is just window dressing. There are so many ways into and out of airports it's disgusting. Any smart terr isn't going to bother with that anymore. The only problem with ingress/egress to an airport is all these lemmings running around with cellphones ready to narc on anybody for anything. There are much easier targets to hit with more wide-ranging damage possible.

Welcome to Big Brother it's your neighbor or fellow countryman with a cellphone capable of documentary evidence (picture), cell tower triangulation (location), and instant access to all the gung-ho cops ready to show anybody (who doesn't toe the myriad of laws designed to remove your liberties) what you should really fear... the power of those who know what's "good" for you (911) Not the date.

I actually know a lot of people that fit in various groups that are commonly profiled and I think that just as many of them are normal people as are not. As for the harley riding, leather wearing biker...news flash, most of those guys are lawyers or doctors on a weekend road trip 'letting loose.'The black dude standing by a lightpost at night? aside from the gun (I'd hope a cop would question someone... anyone, with a gun sticking out of his/her pants in public) he is probably just waiting for a bus or a ride. Thats how you get around in the ghetto.

I have a friend from cuban and he is dark skinned and looks very middle eastern, the poor guy got stopped and searched, and had his luggage strewn about SEVEN TIMES on a trip from charlotte NC to London, UK.Thats rediculous... I know its true because I was with him, and I was searched once at the metal dectectors and not again.

So if you are asking me if I've already got an impression in my mind of most of the groups you mentioned, no, I honestly don't.

But imagine this guy:gun on his waist, club in his hand, follows you around and hassles you just because you can't afford a car and have to wait for a bus, or just because you want to escape from the city streets and ride a motorcycle on your day off. If you try to defend yourself he will beat you in the head, spray chemicals in your face, and kidnap you while he taunts and threatens you.

Yeah, I'd be a lot more afraid of that guy, especially when he is a cop who can do it all legally even if you haven't done the slightest thing wrong.

. It seems that one of our "elders"(Squeefoo) has steped up to the plate for basically what I believe to be true. It is a sad situation when your fellow "neighbors" will nark on you at the drop of a hat.

Why is it that in most neighborhoods, the neighbors either don't get along, or don't have any contact with each other? I remember "Back in the day", when our fellow neighbors would give everything they own to help out a friend/Neighbor. But now what do we get? If your dog craps on the lawn and you don't pick it up right away, you're getting a fine(if you live in deed restricted community). If you discipline your child, you're getting arrested. Heck, even if you walk onto your "neighbors" property to help them out, you can be charged by that person for trespassing. Most neighbors don't give a rat's a$$ about there fellow neighbors. Why are Americans so segregated? And the worst thing about it is that this segregation is partially self induced. Americans are so greedy, Arrogant, and intraverted that they absolutely refuse to cooperate together with their neighbor. It is truely a sad state .

Notice that I sad that segregation was partially induced by the citizens, but not completely. The media and/or Government has a big part in the segregation. For he who has the most followers will rule the people. Now, you don't think that the government is going to sit idley by while it's citizens congregate into large masses. They(the government) does, and should, fear this congregation of people. For if this group of people so chooses to over throw and/or "disobey" the government, the group will be large enough that the government either must listen to them, or silence them(think Hitler/Stalin Style).

Lets reference this to Nazi Germany. How many Jews, Gypsys', and other people that were executed by Hitler were there? 10~20million right? Well, the Nazi "government" actually got the citizens of Germany to nark are their neighbors. And yet just think about it, if all the people that were killed by Hitler had banded together and opposed him, they would have had a great chance of suppressing his oppressive tactics. Unfortunately, the Nazi government had convinced the people that their neighbors were indeed their enemies. So they narked on each other ever chance they got.

Now, let's relate this to my statement 2 paragraghs up. Can you see the relationship between the US government tactics and the Nazi Germany tactics? If you can get the citizens to not trust each other, you will acheive the ultimate control over them.

The only ownage in this thread was committed by yours truly.

Conveniently ignored by the kids, in their haste to post yet more MTV-spawned propagandist blather and juvenile presumptions.

But then again, most 17-year olds have a quick trigger. Just ask their girlfriends.

Make applesauce.

Greg, forget your years of experience, forget your Master in CJ, forget blah, blah, blah...

A high school student could tell you that racial profiling can't 'work' if its unconstitutional. Nothing divergent about that...

Quote »As far as you being sued by an intruder, you need to quit believing what you read in Mom's discarded National Enquirer and do some case law research. It's actually an incredibly UNcommon occurrence, and every incident is as unique as a fingerprint. No two cases are the same.

As regards my comment that profiling works, the facts stand alone. When you take into account the demographics of a given region, certain groups (not necessarily ethnic) are responsible for a DISPROPORTIONATE percentage of crimes. Factual, and indisputeable.
They are indicted/convicted for a DISPROPORTIONATE percentage of crimes. Thats a fact. If you specifically target sheep, youre more likely to catch bad sheep.

Quote »Now, if you can get your worried little noggin PAST the idea that profiling = racially-driven ethnic discrimination, it's a pretty easy concept to understand.

Ever see a 55-year-old man (race unknown) in a white dress shirt and tie, with a leather briefcase and reading glasses rob a convenience store? Me neither.

Ever see a 90-year old (race unknown) overweight woman commit a carjacking. Me neither.

Ever see a 14-year old girl with pigtails and a backpack (race unknown) commit sexual assault? Didn't think so.
lolHow many criminals carry a briefcase (or bookbag, or purse, or suitcase, or loaf of bread) when robbing a convenience store??

The ELDERLY woman is probably not phsyically able to commit that crime or even drive the car.

Who knows what a babysitter could do... LOL

Quote »Having considered the above:

Is it ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that the skinny, unkempt guy on the 10-speed with the hollow stare and nervous demeanor riding past your house several times at dusk is a law-abiding, upstanding citizen just out for his doctor-prescribed exercise? Yep. But unlikely.

Is it ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that the leather-clad tattooed biker with the "F*** THE WORLD" jacket patch and swastika do-rag is a contributing member of society who'd never even THINK of beating you senseless for looking at him crosswise or cutting him off in traffic? Yep. But unlikely.

Is it ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that the saggy-pants thug leaning against the lamppost at midnight with a pistol in his waistband is simply collecting data for a research project, and the gun is registered, licensed, and carried for protection in this rough neighborhood? Yep. But unlikely.

By the way, since YOU have already mentally assigned a race and age to all three of the above examples (admit it, I know you did, it's our nature), YOU are guilty of profiling.
Greg, its not in everyone's nature. Only a few certain people's. These are the ones my negative comments are directed towards.

Quote »Ding-ding!

Good work, class. Criminonogy 101 will resume next week.
I'll say this again, profiling only is only helpful in catching a criminal if the profile tragets a minority group. Its not a benefit to determine white males are the most likely to commit a certain crime. That doesnt 'narrow' down anything. Profiling is only considered succesful if the trageted group is a minority. That doesnt work

Its also worth noting that lots of local cops get away with profiling by selectively enforcing certain ordinances...like the car stereo ones. Who plays their car stereos with really loud bass? a lot of young men, and of those, a whole lot of latino and blacks...which conveniently, is just who they want to target anyway! And that gives them an excuse to pull them over and search their cars, check their **** out.blah.

I'll never generalize to say that all cops are crooked, or even that a large persentage of them are. BUT, most of them do have a power complex of some sort. I've never had anything but trouble with cops, sometimes I was doing things I shouldn't have, sometimes I wasn't. Nothing I ever did though, could have possibly shown that I would be violent, or cause them a problem, and I've always done my best to cooperate, only resisting through language (not vulgar or aggressive). It seems though, that they preffer violence to lingual transgretion. I've been hit, had my head snapped back by means of my hair, etc., all the while being told to shut up, stop talking, stop asking questions. I must say, they leave a bad taste after each experience. The last time I was pulled over, I knew I was in the wrong because I was driving on a suspended license. I of course cooperated completely, trying to be as friendly as possible. They simply wouldn't have it, they continually threatened to send me in for other charges of which they had no grounds. After all was said and done and I was waiting for my ride, I tried to have a friendly conversation with the male officer, and he immediatly went back to threatening me with modified exhaust, blah, blah, blah. I mean, come on... you're already towing my car, I'm being nice, can't we ****ING CALL IT A NIGHT!!!... nope, he continued to belittle me and threaten me until my ride showed up.

I don't like cops, but I give them a chance every time I encounter one. They always make me dislike them more. I still see them as a necessity though, and hope that if I need them one day, they will conduct themselves more properly.

Hmmm... You should start carrying around a handhelp pocket version of the constitution.

Amendment 4 states, " The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Specifically read what I put in Bold. They Must State exactly what they are looking for. If they happen to find something else that they were not looking for, it is classified as wrongful search and seizure.

OMG! You have ever right to question and/or talk to the police officers.

Hmm... You might want to clear this by Greg, but isn't saying that they might charge you on other accounts just to get you to shutup a form of verbal assault?

Also, about the exhaust thing. There are Only two things that you could be charged for. 1)If you modifed the Catalytic Converters, pre-cats, or any of the other emmission control parts. This does not include changing/removing the mufflers and/or resonators, and this does not include the Headers. 2) There is a maximum Decibel level that your exhaust can be. I think it's somewhere in the 100~110Db area, which is incredibly loud.

Ok, now i'll wait for Greg to come in here and either tell me how I am a stupid 17 year old, and/or me

Hypothetical situation:

Cop pulls you over for speeding. Comes up to window. He says that you look "suspicious". Does he have the the right to search your vehicle? If he asks you if he can search your vehicle, and you say "NO!" What happens then? If he proceeds to search your vehicle after you have said he can not search your vehicle. If he finds anything illegal, can it be used against you in a court of law?

I don't know the answer to this, but I was asked once to have my vehicle searched, for NO reason whatsoever (he said he smelled pot). I told him that I would prefer not, and that I would like to get home because it was already late. He told me that we could do it the hard way or the easy way. I was down to go the hard way since I had nothing and he had no reason to be doing this to me, but he got a more important call and left. Of course, not before throwing my registration, license, and proof of insurance through the car. I just don't understand why it's so hard for them to be polite, when I am.

Here's the website I got info about the Terry vs. Ohio Case

So, it would seem that all "evidence" was circumstantial. Quote »officer is justified in conducting a carefully limited search of persons whom he reasonably suspects to be dangerous in order to discover any weapons which might be used to assault him or other nearby, even in the absence of probable cause for arrest.
. Shouldn't the officer have asked the person if they were carrying any weapons and/or consealed weapons?

So are you telling me that if I wear my nice "gandsta" looking long black leather trench coat, that a police officer can come up to me and start "patting" me down?

Once again, it sounds like he was verbally threatning you! By "hard way", did he mean that he was going to rip you out of the car?

Also, good job. You knew that you were innocent, so you played "hard ball". Hehehe. I wonder, what would happen if the cop had ripped you out of the car, and you somehow got hurt in the process. And after all was said and done, he didn't find anything in the car?

I hate when people make up answers and post them on the internet without qualification as if they are actual knowledge. Of course it is one's job to qualify any source, but it irritates me nonetheless. Having watched Magnum P.I. or Law & Order in no way qualifies you to interpret the Constitution.

Heehhe. You said "Interpret". Isn't that what a liers(lawyers) job is...LOL...

According to the Supreme Court.... The Constitution is not a definitive document, and can be construed to ones will as long as one can present enough Bull$hit to make ones interpretation seem logical

Yes, I did say interpret. If the law weren't malleable and interpretational it would be static, circumstantial and useless. Think before you speak.

This part was actually said by either the supreme court, or one of the founding fathers. The rest of it, I just through that in for the heck of it .

It sounded good though, right

poorman, I'm sorry but the **** you are spouting off is just plain incorrect and you have no knowledge of the law, I hope no one reads what you wrote about the constitution and what you think are your rights and actually thinks it would apply...you are wrong about your search and seizure bs comment, its what cops call probable cause and the plain sight rule. Once they sense something that gives them probable cause (for instance, in one case the officer asked if the man had any dead bodies in the car. the man said no. the officer said it was a joke and since the man didn't laugh it showed that he was nervous and gave him probable cause to search the car. found marijuana. judge upheld search.)your rights to be protected from search and seizure are very limited in a vehicle. do some reasearch. If you say no, then the cop has the right to detain you until he obtains a warrant to search your vehicle. My dad was coming home from work at 2 am in a minivan and was pulled over. the cop asked if he could search my dads car. My dad said that he was in a hurry and didn't really want his car serached. The officer cuffed my dad for about 30 minutes and told him it could be hours before he could contact the magistrate, before my dad finally said "fine, search the car."second, you can be written a ticket for your exhaust for modifications other than those listed. First off, most states don't have decibel limits, and if they do, they aren't enforced. Just like a police officer is able to estimate your speed, they can estimate how loud the exhaust is. Secondly, some states specifically prohibit modifications to the factory exhaust system. WV law, for example, says that the exhaust must remain unmodified factory components from the catalytic convertor to the exhaust tip...obviously its not strictly enforced, but if a cop wanted to be a d!ck you will get the ticket.

anyway whatever you have heard or made up about your rights and the law is wrong. I'm not saying that I'm certain I know exactly what the law is, but if anyone is serious about this you need to do some research. If spout off constitution stuff at a cop you better know what you are talking about, cause chances are you will be needing it...
