I'm surprised no one mentioned that Asia is a continent, not a country... and definitely not a language.

And that's likely a letter or a character, not a symbol.

Could be any one of hundreds of languages, some not even Asian... Might mean absolutely nothing, but I'm gonna go with this:

It's Taiwanese for "green hat".

it could be like a misprint asian symbol that doesn't mean anything at all.

I think no one mentioned because we all know that.

But like you said, it could be anyone of hundreds of languages, so we just say Asian, being a broad term for things from Asia.

Chinese characters may look similar, but if even one stroke is different, it means something completely different. That first symbol is most likely NOT woman. That second is definitely the character for 1. Although, the two combined could mean something altogether different.

Edit:I just asked my mom. She said the two characters form the Chinese word pi, but without sound notations, it could mean a number of different things since Chinese and Japanese language have literally hundreds of homonyms. She said it most likely means "wear."

it's been a while since I been here...

what you're seeing is not even chinese. It's zhuyin (http://en.wakopedia.org/wiki/Zhuyin)

it is the 2nd and the 22th character. They teach zhuyin to 1st grade only, and mainly in taiwan to help pronunciation of children. From 2nd grade to 6th, the literature text book will still have these tiny helper characters accompany the much more advanced counter part but most children don't really need its help by third grade.

As for the meaning, since there is no tonality stroke attached; it will be the 1st tone.

it could be the following characters 批 披 劈 霹 匹 丕 (I hope you can see these 2 bit chinese characters) but by these characters means gibberish without being accompanied by other characters.

so basically, in my opinion, a non-native speaker thought it was cool to put asian characters on a hat. Unfortunately he failed to realize that 1) it is 1st grade stuff 2) it doesn't make sense 3) in chinese culture, a green hat symbolize something being cheated on by his/her spouse

Now that is interesting! Thanks for the break down. I actually got my question/translation answered by some actual natives from the Mercedes forum. Once I showed them a pic of the back of the hat they were amazed and able to make good sense of their definition, but thanks to all of you who attempted to provide me with an educated answer.

Natives? On a Mercedes forum?

You and geography need to get together and iron out your differences.

Well... The cool kids over at lexus dont have to parallel park themselves, keep themselves within their own lane while driving, and if they're about to hit something their car will wake them up from their expensive cocaine induced coma long enough to avoid it... so yeah, lets hope they're doing something productive like learning another language while their car is driving itself.

Maybe if you pay more attention to the flow of the thread instead making homosexual references about “hineyholes” you may have understood what I meant when I used the word “NATIVES” Pay close attention to this definition! Natives is a neutral, descriptive term i.e. as in stating that one is a native of a particular city, country, state, region or that a certain language is one's native language. Make note of the part where it says, “….a certain language” You following me?

Now, the language that is in question is the one that the hat is written in which quickly prompted a later post relating it to the natives. It's obvious the hat is written in a language from the Orient or East Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, North & South Korea, etc..) Also, pay attention to the title of the thread, “Asian translation” Knowledge is free, but Ignorance will cost you and I dare anyone to ask how much for ignorance.

i like ice cream. what's wrong with inquiring about your feelings towards a frozen dairy treat?

i used to have my normal order of chinese food memorized and i'd go into the take out place on the phone and place my order entirely in chinese. everyone who worked there instantly stopped talking lol. i wouldn't have known what they were saying anyhow, but it was hilarious.
