I think no one mentioned because we all know that.AZhitman wrote:I'm surprised no one mentioned that Asia is a continent, not a country... and definitely not a language.
And that's likely a letter or a character, not a symbol.
Could be any one of hundreds of languages, some not even Asian... Might mean absolutely nothing, but I'm gonna go with this:
It's Taiwanese for "green hat".
Chinese characters may look similar, but if even one stroke is different, it means something completely different. That first symbol is most likely NOT woman. That second is definitely the character for 1. Although, the two combined could mean something altogether different.horubeets wrote: Chinese character for woman
Chinese character for 1
Awesome!! A first grader's hat that shows he cheated on his girlfriend.Fenvy wrote:
so basically, in my opinion, a non-native speaker thought it was cool to put asian characters on a hat. Unfortunately he failed to realize that 1) it is 1st grade stuff 2) it doesn't make sense 3) in chinese culture, a green hat symbolize something being cheated on by his/her spouse
Well done Fenvy, thank you. To the OP: if you decide buy this cap and wear it, may we get your GF's phone number?Fenvy wrote:it's been a while since I been here...

Now that is interesting! Thanks for the break down. I actually got my question/translation answered by some actual natives from the Mercedes forum. Once I showed them a pic of the back of the hat they were amazed and able to make good sense of their definition, but thanks to all of you who attempted to provide me with an educated answer.Fenvy wrote:it's been a while since I been here...
what you're seeing is not even chinese. It's zhuyin (http://en.wakopedia.org/wiki/Zhuyin)
it is the 2nd and the 22th character. They teach zhuyin to 1st grade only, and mainly in taiwan to help pronunciation of children. From 2nd grade to 6th, the literature text book will still have these tiny helper characters accompany the much more advanced counter part but most children don't really need its help by third grade.
As for the meaning, since there is no tonality stroke attached; it will be the 1st tone.
it could be the following characters 批 披 劈 霹 匹 丕 (I hope you can see these 2 bit chinese characters) but by these characters means gibberish without being accompanied by other characters.

Lots of Asian peoples love Mercedes carsAZhitman wrote:Natives? On a Mercedes forum?
You and geography need to get together and iron out your differences.
Well... The cool kids over at lexus dont have to parallel park themselves, keep themselves within their own lane while driving, and if they're about to hit something their car will wake them up from their expensive cocaine induced coma long enough to avoid it... so yeah, lets hope they're doing something productive like learning another language while their car is driving itself.UpStar wrote:I agree, but thats OK. I'll reach out for an answer elsewhere. Maybe the Lexus/Toyota or Mercedes group is more advanced than the Nissan folks Modified by UpStar at 5:23 PM 12/13/2009
