Ashtray

Does anyone know where I can get an ashtray to fit in the ashtray space in the console? The space is lined with felt. I have a cupholder ashtray but it is awkward to use. Yes, I am probably the only person in the U.S. that wants an ashtray.

I have the exact same problem. I went to my local Infiniti and ordered what I was told was an ashtray liner to replace the flocked one that came with the car. I discovered that what was ordered was a cup ashtray that fits in the cup holder on the console. I had already bought a version of that at PEP Boys but trying to use an ashtray in that location is dangerous as well as messy. After spending the last two hours searching the 'net, I've just about given up. I'm going to try to remove the flocking from the original insert, just not sure how. Please keep me posted if you come up with a better idea. And drop a line to InfinitiUSA, as I will! Unless they offer usable ashtray options, this will be my first and last Infiniti.

I also thought about removing the flocking. Why would they make an ashtray but then cover it with material so you can't use it for an ashtray? I heard the reason why the EX's don't have ashtrays but other Infiniti models do is because the EX is actually made in this country. Unfortunately, the ashtrays for the other models don't fit the EX. Please let me know how you make out with removing the flocking and how you did it.

Just FYI, I believe most are made in Japan, mine was. You can tell where it's made by the VIN. If it starts with a "1" it was made in the USA; if it starts with a "J" it was made in Japan.

Before I attempt what I imagine will be a very messy job, I contacted InfinitiUSA asking why a regular ashtray insert isn't an option. I sent my first email last Friday and have just sent my second. Clearly, customer service isn't a priority at HQs. I've also looked on Ebay but so far haven't gotten dimensions on used inserts that look to be roughly the same size as this ridiculous "coin holder". Had any luck?

Seriously, the Flocking is there to protect your Cell-phone or anything else that will fit.

My Wife puts her Blackberry there while it's charging.

If I had the habit, I would get one of these, instead of having Ashes all over my Console and Stick-shift. Nothings more gross than watching smoke rise up on over the Radio, NAV and Air Conditioning Controls.

I did contact my dealership but unfortunately, the ashtrays for the other Infinitis do not fit for the EX. Again, why would they do that? I haven't checked on EBay yet. I am currently using a cupholder ashtray that has a small hole in the top to push the butt through. It cuts down on the ashes flying around on the console but not totally.

Thanks for the laugh, EXceptional, about throwing my butts out the window! Not only do I not throw my butts on the ground, I also pick up after my dog after she does her "business" outside. I wonder about people who leave a trail of butts, litter and other things behind them. Who do they think is going to pick that stuff up? Do they think it magically disappears?
