Ashtray rattle

There is an intermittent rattle that seems to be coming from the ashtray on my '01 QX4. There is nothing inside it. The rattle goes away when I open the ashtray and push it down. Any ideas what this could be and how to fix it? Can the ashtray be replaced or is it attached to the whole dash cover?

Are you really asking a question about your ashtray rattling?

If so, go ghetto & leave it open & pushed down... the other option is it's probably that the spring is not tight enough which causes the lid or small hinge to rattle or shake...

just smoke "blunts fulla dro" until the ashtray fills up and the noise stops, or until you are so lit that you don't care anymore.

If you take out the inner tray, will the ash tray still rattle?

Yes it does, and leaving it open doesn't stop it either. I have to acutally push down on it to stop. I'll take apart the dash one of these days and see what I find out.
