i changed my front brake pads and rotors today. it was a success...and then.........after i was finished and was ready to put the wheels on...i noticed something dripping from under the car. i looked around and saw that the brake fluid reservoir topped off and spilled a whole bunch of brake fluid. must be when i pushed the pistons back in? i dunno...but i'm really pissed...the paint inside the bonnet eerrrrr the engine area came off. now i have to clean it up and primer the damn thing. pissss me offfff!!!!!!!! hey! does anyone know of a good brake fluid neutralizer that wont affect the bare metal?

yeah man you always gotta take the cap off the resivoir and put a rag around it. Either that or suck some out so it's not so full. When you push in the caliper piston it makes the fluid go revrerse!! --but you already knew that

Just wash it off with water.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the atmoshphere. That's why it's a good idea to flush out your system every two to three years. It absorbs moisture, which will lower the boiling point of the fluid, and start rusting stuff in your hydraulic system.

I had it slightly below the "full" mark in the reservoir. i was following directions that someone wrote up on the internet and it failed to mention anything about it over flowing when pushing the pistons back in. it was my first time doing a brake job. ohh well...at least i learned something, even though it was very painful.

next time open the bleed screw like you're bleeding the brakes.this is much better for your caliper and you're not pushing old fluid back into the system.
