the car is a 1991 180sx.. with 16inch enki wheels and almost new Cusco zero-1 coilovers

i had front-end shimmy that would come and go @ speeds over 90km/h so .. in order i replaced the following parts

1- got wheels balanced ( on/off shimmy still there)

2- replaced tension rods ( no more shimmy while braking )(on/off shimmy still there)

3- replaced ball joints and bushings (on/off shimmy still there )

4 - balanced tires again ( still there )

5- got 66.1 x 73 mm centering rings (on/off shimmy still there)

only thing left to replace on the front end are all 4 tie rods, and rack n pinion mount bushings..

can bad tie rods or rack n pinion bushing cause shimmy .. on my past cars.. i had destroyed tie rods .. but would never shimmy

it's really killing the ride .. it's a use piss off

*******************

edit .. wheel bearing replaced last year .. less than 2000km ago

i have a tiny play on a inner tie rod tho.. but like i said .. i've seen destroyed tie rods and no shimmy..

I'm really sorry for that, but I had to type it. Sorry I know it's bad.

You probably would have noticed, but have you checked for blisters on the tires? (large bumps where belt has broke or its been too stressed)Just my .02

yep yep he's right, inner layer not fully attatched to outer layer of tire, which causes steel belts to shift and cause part-time shimmy. Tipical of cheap generic tires from china.....

Have you gotten an alignment? I had a shimmy above 50mph, got an alignment and it went away. Just my couple pennies.

ok, what about your control arm bushings, but that still should not shake the car. What kind of tires you have on? used when purchaced? trust me it must be your tires. If it was alingment then there would be pulling cupping and uneven tread, hubs then loud a** noise
