So I hand tightened all the studs into the block. Afterwards i noticed that the front left stud (staring at the engine) sticks up abt 1/4" or so above the rest of the studs. anybody else have this problem? They are the correct studs and it went in with no problems at all.

Yup, it's known that happens. The threads aren't as deep as over there because of the coolant port.

What I did on mine, just to be safe, was use all of the stock washers PLUS the ARP washers. No problems so far, and it's been like that for 5 years now.

I used both washers on all of the studs.
