im installing my arp head studs at the moment ... i cleaned out the threads, oiled up the studs, dropped them in place, hand tightened them and then continued to tq them in a bit more with allen head socket on my ratchet. no were near tq'd down

the arp instuctions say: - using the arp lube, tq to 70lbs - using 30wt motor oil, tw to 85lbs

my buddy with his built ka was reading up lots on his arp studs and thier procedure ... and the census seems to be only hand tight (i can only assume that most are able to thread the stud in all the way) at least in the ka-t world

discuss!!

The reason you only you hand tighten the studs is that when you put the nut on and torque it down, it stretches both sides of the stud evenly... If the stud doesn't want to go all the way down, you can ratchet it down, but down actually tighten the stud...

the main reason why hand tight the stud is because the stud itself on the block side is not the grip point , rather the nut is what holding the head down. that's why you dont need to torque the stud. just torque the nut to the instruction. see the logic????!

as for the assembly lube, you can use the motor oil or the lube arp provide.

so at that point with hand tightening the studs should they all be in the same as in the height of the studs should all be equal? B/c when i did both my SR and RB they didn't all go down to equal heights.

ideally you want all the studs to be even... this is to insure an even stretch on all the studs. If for some reason the stud doesn't want to thread down all the way, clean the holes out first. I use a combination of carb cleaner and an compressed air to clean the stud holes out. If they still don't go down, by hand (which is the usually the case for a few studs) just ratchet them down till they stop. But do not actually tighten them.

the studs have allen heads in the top of them for putting them into the block.i always clean the threads and put some of the arp lube on the stud then hand twist it into the block, then when its almost in snug it up with the correct allen key.

i misunderstood the instructions initially ... your not suppose to tq the studs down, just the bolts (duh) when the head is on.

i took the studs out, cleaned them off as well as the holes, got the arp lube, hand tightened them and then tightened them with the allen key until i hit resistance. all studs look even on the block and no theads are showing were it meets the block
