Im putting ARP headstuds in my s13 sr20det motor. My question is sould i torque them higher then the stock headbolts are.It says 60lbs sould I do that or sould I go higher. And how tight sould I get the stud when im treading them into the block.Do i use a hex key wrench and get them tight with that?Or hand tighten?

-Thanks for the help

I think I remember seeing numbers like 80-90 lbs for arp bolts. and the studs will tighten them selves as you torque the bolts

I hand tightened mine with the assembly lube on the threads that ARP supplied. Then torqued to 60ft/lbs

So I sould just hand tighten the studs when i put them in the head?Because today i put the studs in and I used the moly lube on the treads and hand tightend all of them,But then I used the hex key and got all of them pretty tight with that,Sould I loosen them up and just leave them hand tightend?

From my understanding, ARP has instructions in the book that say to tighten to a certian LBS, but then to tighten them to a certian degree. Consult instructions if you still have them. If not, I will probably be able to help you out when mine come in.

the studs threaded easily into the block for me. I did clean up the threads though before install of the studs. With the lube ARP supplied, they went in easily and without so much of a hitch. When you start to toque down the nuts, it'll tighten down the stud also, it's nothing too big to worry about.

Wow, you have a nack for diggin up old threads. At least we know you search. Whenever I work with SR heads and ARP studs, I follow the FSM spec for the first step. After that, I loosen them all and tighten in the following steps. 20lbs, 40lbs, 60lbs, 70lbs, 80lbs, and finally 85lbs. As many times as I've done this, it hasn't become a problem at all. Make sure to use plenty of moly lube that is supplied with the bolts. Also clean out the threads in the block with the correct sized/thread tap (use moly lube on tap also). Flip over, spray with carb cleaner to wash out additional particles and then start head installation.

Yeah the factory has head bolts. ARP is just made in stud form.
