i ordered some ARP headbolts for my sr and while i was about to put it in... i noticed that it was alot shorter than my stock headbolts... i tried to see if itll work but when i put it in only a little thread was showing on the ARP's... i was wondering how long should it be??? As long as the stockers or a alot shorter??? if it is shorter then what is the best way to torque it down... thanks-Dara

First of all, lube everything with ARP lube. Including the threads, washer, nuts.

you get an allen wrench that fits the stud, install the studs using the allen wrench and tighten it down until you feel it bottoms out.

You install the washer and nuts.

tighten according to the FSM sequence (inside out) but tighten them in 20 ft*lb increments until 75 ft*lb.

So, your first sequence is 20ft*lb then, 40, then 60, then 75.

Maybe they sent you the wrong studs? I dont know if the S14/15/13 engines are different where the studs would be that much of a size difference or not. I think on my headstud instructions it said the headstuds could also be used on a Jetta, maybe check your instructions and see if it says the same thing. Could tell you if they sent the wrong studs. I have a redtop sr btw

yeah you definitely have wrong head studs... when I tighten mine down until it bottoms out there is about a good inch sticking out the head.
