Hello,

I have a question about my 2014 Rogue SL Premium, and I'm not sure if something is wrong with my car or the manual is incorrect.

The manual states on page 4-21: "The display automatically changes to the Around View Monitor displaying front-view/bird's-eye view when: The shift lever is in the D (Drive) position, and the sonar detects the vehicle is approaching an object."

Now, my car does not do that. For instance, if I'm pulling into my garage, I would expect the Around View Monitor to come on when I'm getting near the back of the garage. Or if I'm pulling into a parking spot with a car or wall across from me.

Does this feature work for other people or is the manual incorrect?

I just want to find out before I go back to the dealer and they look at me like I'm crazy.

Thanks.

I think you missed this section in the manual:
Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recognition systems 4-17 p.186
The front view will not be displayed when the vehicle speed is above 6 MPH (10 km/h).

In short, the camera system automatically disengages when you exceed 6 MPH.

But how about under 6mph? Like when I'm pulling into my garage. Just curious, maybe I am interpreting it wrong.

Also, any experience with the FCW (forward collision warning)? I've only had it go off one time... do you have to practically crash for it to go off?

Although the manual doesn't say so, I believe that as it's designed as a parking aid, if you travel more than say 10 feet it still shuts off.

Sounds like it might need to be re-calibrated. As your vehicle is still under full warranty, it wouldn't hurt to drop by your local dealership and bring these items to their attention. Remember, this setup is completely new for the Rogue (Bird's Eye View coupled with collision warning), so there's bound to be glitches.

I'm curious about this also. When I park in front of my garage, I would also expect the front camera to display but it does not. I have tested it going under 6mph, and have gotten super close to my garage, and the camera does not engage.

However, it does occasionally seem to engage the front camera when switching from reverse to drive. I have only even seen it do it in parking lots sometimes.

The display automatically changes to the Around View Monitor displaying front-view/bird’s-eye view when:

Maybe Nissan is splitting hairs, as the system does not consider a garage wall an "object". Here's the logic: you may not see a trash can or a kids tricycle, but you should be able to see a wall. I'm sure they mean no offense, but it suggests that if you need a camera aimed in front of you see a wall, then maybe you shouldn't be driving.

True, but I don't see how the radar in the front would be able to tell the difference between what's in front of me. If I had to guess, I would say that it will only engage the front camera after switching from reverse, if it detects something. Kinda useless in my opinion with that kind of setup.

I guess that is why we have a camera button that we can press.

When you in drive just push the camera button under map and nav buttons. You should see your front camera view if you driving less than 6ml/h

Thanks Cold16112, I was just curious if something was wrong with my car. It doesn't sound like it. What's your experience with the FCW? Have you had that beep at you ever? Under what circumstances?

Hi the only way I've found to engage the around view moving forward is to push the camera button. I wish it would come on automatically under 6 mph (speed per manual) moving forward as with reverse.

I, too, have a question about the FCW. My wife and I have also had it go off only once (purchased 3 months ago). I'm wondering the same thing - do you basically have to be on someone's bumper to have it go off?? I'm seriously concerned there's a glitch (as another poster suggested) - and I dropped it off tonight for service on this and a couple other warranty issues. However, I'm going to bet (pessimist that I can be) that the dealer's going to blow it off and say "normal function." Given what I've observed (people cutting in front of me, etc) I cannot believe that it's working properly.

This is an error in the manual. In other markets the Rogue has parking sensors in the front bumper (and self parking among other things) which will active the round-view system automatically.

Nissan did a horrendous job of creating the NA manual. There are many entries which are just plain wrong and/or reference things that we don't get in NA.

Yes, you have to be very close to a collision before the FCW goes off. In the cases it has done it for me, I would have crashed if I hadn't already been braking.

I bought a 2015 Rogue SL about a month ago. My experience with FCW has been excellent so far. (Not sure if the performance will wear off over time).

I have had several instances where FCW went off when the car ahead of me was at a good distance, but I did not realize it was braking. One thing I realize is that it seems to be calculating some offset. The alerts go off if my speed is increasing (either I am pushing the pedal, or coming downhill), and the speed of the vehicle ahead slows down. It does goes off when I am much closer if I am applying brakes already, and does not go off if the distance between the two cars is reducing gradually.
