1992 Q, showing 138K on the clock, with unblemished/torn/worn tan interior, has an armrest that is beginning to crack through. Lexoil has been used many times on the interior, but armrest shows my style of resting elbow on it while driving.

QUESTION: Can the thing be turned over, so to speak, putting the unused portion on top, and the cracking one on the bottom? Other than this, the interior is perfect, other than OEM floor mats.

I spend summers in part of NM where uphoulstery shops are still reasonable, being quoted a price for my M30 'vert of 1/3 what I was being gouged for in coastal SC! Not leather, but a perforated synthetic the guy showed me. Sort of nonsensical to put $5 LARGE into a leather interior in a vehicle no longer worth even $3K!!! I could always take the Q armrest to this guy for a synthetic covering.

Thanks for your thoughts!

2k2, I think he meant turning the whole assembly over, not turning the cover inside out.

I would go with new leather... shouldn't be that expensive for that one part. I priced new front seat bottoms and an armrest in leather in Columbia for less than $500 a few years ago. You might get lucky and find a relatively unblemished back seat in your same color in a salvage yard to buy cheap if you wanted to use it for donor leather. Probably not necessary, unless the upholstry shops would require you to buy way more leather than you need for such a small job.

Good thought, Heath!

The mighty Qship continues to impress, completing recent 1500 mile trip, mostly on I-10, with speeds that would get you jail time back east! And, with air, got over 20 mpg! I continue to rate the Series I Q45 as one of the best road cars I have ever driven (recently had the use of newish MB CLS500 while in Germany (BTW, gasoline at the time, with then exchange rate, was about $7.30 a gallon! Friend lliving near Frankfurt said that, if they had $3.00 gas, there would be a line of cars all the way to Munich, or several hundred miles!). Drop dead gorgeous styling in the CLS, the prettiest 4dr hardtop I have ever seen, but I sorta of think I would prefer the Q, in many respects!)

Gotta fly back to SC area to deal with now vacant rental property! Never again, landlords always being at the mercy of tenants, at least in SC! You being in real estate can relate!

Ciou!

You cannot flip the leather cover over due to the shape. Well maybe you could but it would look odd. Also, there is a hole for the swivel axle that would show on the passenger side even if you could. For anyone trying to swop leather covers, the fit is very tight. Slide a plastic shopping bag over the foam before sliding on the leather. Makes it easier.

And we're one of the good states, at least from the landlord's perspective!
