I currently live in Northern Cali but will be moving to Pheonix probably this fall or winter to attend UTI. I was wondering what kind of emissions testing (if any) you people in AZ have to deal with. Wondering if I'll have to have any kind of inspection when I bring my s13 into the state. This way I'll know if I can start any possible mods now since I won't have to get it smogged in Cali again.

Thanks,Brandon

Arizona smog tests are SOOOO much easier to pass than the Cali ones. It's pretty simple - drive up, run the dyno, and drive out with your certificate, as long as the exhaust gasses are within spec. As far as I remember, there is no visual inspection, or any of the other crap that goes along with the California smog.

HOWEVER, you will have to go to a state-operated smogging facility, since in AZ there are no outside smog centers. Be prepared to spend at least an hour in line, sitting in your car, waiting to get a smog check.

...oh, almost forgot...

If you can manage to get an address in Flagstaff (about 2 hours north of Phoenix) you won't need to smog your car. Northern Arizona doesn't have any smog checks.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was hoping to here!

Now I just have to pass CA test for transfer of ownership. Everything was cool except my NOX was 2500 and the limit is 799. Getting injectors rebuilt, fixed egr system, new O2 sensor, back off timing about 2 degrees. Hopefully that'll do it.

No, no, no.

1) There are visuals. Must have cats, fuel filler restrictor intact, and other emissions equipment underhood.

2) If you go on a weekday morning you can usually get in/out in 10-15 minutes. Email me before you get here and I'll give you the address of a really quiet facility.

3) You can't do the whole address switcheroo. It's easier to just pass emissions, as they're cracking down on that scam.

Thanks for the clearing up Hitman... it's been 4 years since I lived in Phoenix, 6 since Flagstaff... so I'm sure my info is a little out of date.

Of course, back in my day... /grumpy old man

MY RB20DET PASSED VISUAL AND SNIFFER... ITS NOT HARD.... CHECK THE RB SECTION FOR A THREAD "MISC CAR PICS" IT HAS PICTURES OF MY TEST SHEET.

THERE IS VISUAL AND A PRETTY LAX SNIFFER TEST. THEY ALSO DO PRESSURE AND FUEL VAPOR TESTS.
