Ok I have a couple questions. First of all beautiful engine looks great.

1. Did you completly take out the power steering. So no pwer steering at all? Or A/C?

2. If I get a LT1 I want to keep it a manual trans. any advise. Do you have any pic's on were you had to set your mounts for the trans. I know you bolted something under the seat right.

3. Did the oil pan fit? what did you have to fabricate to get the engine to clear everything and to sit in properly.

4.Engine mounts. How do I get some of those universal engine mounts.

5. Exhaust. How did you finish the exhaust. Did you put duels (thats a dumb question) How did you get the second one to fit.?

6.Fuel I understand you had to upgrade. Would a holly electric fuel pump work as well?

7.Drive shaft & rear end. Were did you get one that would fit or did you fabricate it? If you did how long is it (the drive shaft)? Also How is the rear end holding up under the pressure.

8. Wireing and fuses. Easy Wireing harness where can I get one of those?

9. Any Cooling issues?

10. handeling. How does it handle with the added weight in the front. I read some of your threads and you said the whole front end would lift up.

11. Last question. Beside the obvious cost of the engine. What else did you have to buy.

I'm going to be doing a swap in a month or so I havn't decided what I'm going to put in. But I want it to be something big to help in advertising my bussiness. And an LT1 motor would be perfect. Sorry for the long note but I like to be very thorough. I also might be getting a Caprice with the LT1 motor so This would help alot in making a decision. I'm still planing on entering this car in the nasa races. Thanks in advance for your help.

1. You can't totally eliminate power steering, unless you can find someone to make a worm and pinion type setup for you. AC?:rolleyes

2. Considering the way he has gone through TH350's and such, I would imagine he'd go through clutches 10 times as often. Oh yea also about that, a lot of people have trouble placing the shifter with a manual or even auto for that matter. 350 w/ a B&M will do. It's not as fun, but it's more efficient.

4. Try somewhere like grannysspeedshop.com or midwestmotorsports.com. Places that do a lot of RX-7 swaps.

5. Fuel tank is in the way for dual exhaust. Maybe you could get a fuel cell.

7. The stock R200 will hold up, but no one is guaranteeing traction.

8. I wouldn't wanna mess with a fuel injection system if you don't have the skills. Go with a carb setup baby. So much easier, and you don't have the wiring headaches.

9. Shoot, Dual 12 in. fans and a bigass radiator from a truck should solve the issues.

10. I'm sure you can quote Aries by saying, "Handling? What's that?"

11.I'm sure Aries spent multiple thoouusand's of dollars, but there are simple setups you can do for 1000-2000 bucks.;) As long as you have a TIG and you're an expert. There are 3 people in my town who have done V8 swaps into their RX-7's. All of done it for under 2 grand. (Excluding the amount put into the engine itself.)They might not be the safest cars or most legal to drive, but they're fast as hell. oh yea...nasa?

1. Did you completly take out the power steering. So no pwer steering at all? Or A/C? The factory steering rack was welded into a closed system with no pump. It's like 1/2 power steering. A/C is not for race cars.

2. If I get a LT1 I want to keep it a manual trans. any advise. Do you have any pic's on were you had to set your mounts for the trans. I know you bolted something under the seat right.Manual transmission can be done. T56 would be it, and it would need on heck of a clutch. Also, placement of the shifter would mean major mods to the center console.3. Did the oil pan fit? what did you have to fabricate to get the engine to clear everything and to sit in properly. The oil pan is custom and made in house. There is not a pan made for chevys that will work.

4.Engine mounts. How do I get some of those universal engine mounts. The mounts are $875, and are made and installed in our shop.5. Exhaust. How did you finish the exhaust. Did you put duels (thats a dumb question) How did you get the second one to fit.?The exhaust is a 2.5" Y pipe back to a 2.75" full with a Ractive high flow CAT, and a Flowmaster 40 series muffler.

6.Fuel I understand you had to upgrade. Would a holly electric fuel pump work as well? You will need a minimum of 2 255lph pumps. one in tank, and one in lie to maintain pressure.

7.Drive shaft & rear end. Were did you get one that would fit or did you fabricate it? If you did how long is it (the drive shaft)? Also How is the rear end holding up under the pressure. The driveshaft is a custom carbon fiber piece from driveshafts inc. here in Houston. The rear end is not stock. The stock R200 died a horrible death when it's ring gear first cracked, and then exploded under torque. I'm now running a RS200 from a R32 Skyline.

8. Wireing and fuses. Easy Wireing harness where can I get one of those? Painless. Order it from Sumitt, but be warned, it's near $1000 for all the pieces needed.

9. Any Cooling issues?Constantly. The nissan 240SX was not designed to flow enough air under the hood to keep a motor this size cool. Inside the passenger compartment we consistantly see temperatures of 95-115 degrees.

10. handeling. How does it handle with the added weight in the front. I read some of your threads and you said the whole front end would lift up.Handling? What's that? 54lbs is not much to add to the front. And with proper weight redustion done, makes no difference at all. The lack of P/S makes the biggest difference.

11. Last question. Beside the obvious cost of the engine. What else did you have to buy.Engine, Transmission, Drive Shaft, Scatter Shield, Driveshaft loop, wiring harness, ECU, vats eliminator, more...

I'm going to be doing a swap in a month or so I havn't decided what I'm going to put in. But I want it to be something big to help in advertising my bussiness. And an LT1 motor would be perfect. For what it's worth, don't do an LT1. It seems like every shop in the country is trying to do it, and they're all being labeled as posers by the racing community. Do something different. If you're looking for a great advertisement, do something unique that hasn't been done before.

How about a 2003 Cobra engine or a Lightning engine...that'd be different, dunno how well it'd fit though

Sounds good but I'm not a ford fan :rolleyes

I think it might be a little to bulky anyway.

The SVT versions are so heavily modded by SVT that it's barely even a Ford engine anymore. forged pistons, rods, and counterweighted forged crankshaft.

yep, and there is NO room what so ever in the engine bay of a mustang, a car made with a bigger engine that eh 240 in it. so good luck stuffing one of those in there.

As for unique, we over and the DNE forums were discussing a FWD 3.0 VQ from a maxima into my 240, but it cant be done for my budget and pretty much just for the fact that its a FWD engine. although, a nice built up VQ with a Stillen supercharger would be hella nice.

Budget is a big deal with me as well. I was considering the LT1 motor because I can find them relativly cheap where I'm at. If I look I can probably just buy a whole police car with that motor and everything I need for about 2000 and just rip everything out my self. I was also planning to make it a 383 stroker engine. I have experience with those. the whole setup for me probably would cost about 6000 grand (maybe a little more).

So now it's a matter of finding something exotic that's fast and in budget. What about a mercades v10 you think that would fit.

length isnt that much of a problem, cause there is still some room and if i convert to electric fans, i'll pick up some more. but its plumbing and such thts the problem, as well as width. the VQ is very wide and takes up a lot of room.

the V10 has an oil pickup like a mustang 351.It'll fit, but be a close squeeze based on dimensions.
