So I was prepping everything to put my new cams in, set it to TDC, marked the chain links, loosened the cam sprocket bolts, and as I was taking the bolt out of the exhaust cam the washer behind it decided to play pinball all the way down my motor! Great!!!!

So I shined a flashlight down there and my guess is either it's at the bottom of the timing chain or better yet sitting inside the oil pan?

What are my options? Pull the water pump and timing cover or pull the pan hoping it is in there?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

open the oil pan first,if you dont see it in the pan or stuck somewhere up in there.then you gonna have to remove the aluminum pan next.

That ain't pinball, that's plinko.

Anyhow, do you have one of those long rods with a magnet on the end that you might be able to snake down there?

Huh! That's about what it sounded like also. I thought about that (magnet rod) but as far as space to get in there I was not sure about. Never hurts to try.

I hear your pain, been there....

There is a good chance that the washer is sitting in the bottom of your oil pan right now. But just in case grab a flexible shaft magnet and one of those dental inspection tools with a good flashlight. Poke around the back of the front cover and gears, maybe you get lucky and is hung somewhere in that area.

So after looking at some engine diagrams and guesstimating the course the washer took I ran out to my parents house today where my car is and ran a magnet rod down there. I followed it down until it reached the bottom and hoping for the best when I pulled it back up, out came the washer!!!!

Thank goodness. Now I can finish my project.

Thanks for your help!
