my car originally had a busted thermalstat that was stuck open since summer. this was good in the summer, but as it gets colder, its getting harder and harder for the car to get up to operating temp.
so i changed the thermostat today, and for some reason the idle went from 700 to 1300 rpm. my initial thought was that the car is adjusting to the new warm up sequence. so i drove for 25 miles and the car is still idling high.
i pulled over to the side, and checked for vacuum leaks by the throttle body and there is nothing. then i shut the car off and unhooked the TPS sensor, turned the car back on, and adjusted the idle. the problem is the screw is already in the tightest position so i couldn't adjsut anymore. i hooked the TPS back up and the car is still idling high.
the weird thing is my car's vac at idle is suppose to be 22 in hg. when i first turn on the car warm, the vac is at 19 in and it would idle at 900rpm. then i rev it once, it goes back to 22in but the idle would shoot from 900 to 1300rpm and stay there all the time.
then i unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and even tried stepping on the gas pedal with the battery unhooked to try to clear all the codes ( like mazda ) i know stepping on the pedal might not do anything but still i was getting desperate.
started the car and it still idles high. the TPS shows normal reading on the safc, so its not a bad tps. what could have caused this? i mean all i did was change the thermostat. alot of coolant came out, but i mean how in da hell would that effect my idle?
if anyone have ever experienced this please help.
thanks.
